When I ordered my Yaris Cross as my run about I started to see there is a problem with hybrid and EV car 12v batteries. They put small 12v batteries in this type of cars and the forums are full of complaints from people (all makes) who wake up to cars that won't start as the 12v battery is too low. It seems to be all of the electrics and over the air updates. I noticed this at my last service waiting for the GRY when two customers were in there complaining about this. The garages simply say "you need to use it more - 10k a year. Toyota now officially state on the website you should leave the car in ready mode for 1 hour a week. I put mine on the CTEK every week sometimes twice. This week it was on it all day monday and 6 hours on Thursday.
I fit a battery monitor 2 (BM2) and check it on my phone. The CTEK goes straight through the lights and to full charge in a couple of minutes.
My question is this morning it showed 12.45V which I assume is OK.
The app turned red as the condition was 69%,. It regularly shows 70%+.
What is the difference between a voltage reading and a condition reading for a 12v battery. How can you have a good voltage with no warning on the CTEK and red warning about condition?
One owner says Toyota issued a bulletin about replacing with a yuasa 35ah battery. They come with cheap 30ah as standard.
Toyota say they are not allowed to put in the Yuasa 55ah battery of same physical size due to technical problems.
Why would a higher AH battery be a problem to a hybrid?
I don't understand electrics.
