Has anyone run 245/40 R18 on the factory 18x8 wheels?

If so what tyre are you on and how are you finding it?

Considering putting some Goodyear Eagle F1 SS on in this size. 80% Road use, 20% track.

Found the OEM PS4S to be a little undersized for track work.

This is one I found from the Aus group, wearing PS5s in 245/40 R18. (Wouldn't be surprised if the actual section width is a little narrow as these look square on the 8J wheel)

Thanks,

Seen PS Cup 2 on stock bbs rims. They work well on track, but they protude on the side more than those ps5.

I have a 245/40/18 Michelin PSS on the front of my daily driver, which has an 8J wheel. It has a square fitment, it doesn’t look pinched. The 255 on the 8.5J rear has a very slight stretch. It depends on the tyre. You’d need one with stuff sidewalls to ensure it doesn’t feel wallowy.

Were these 245/40? I would assume being a track tyre they would probably measure up true/wider

Thanks! Yeah I agree, very much depends on the tyre.

I hear the F1 SS has a stiffer sidewall than PS4S so hopefully should be fine!

So did another TD in the dry but cooler weather 10c on the OEM tyres. Again finding them lacking mid-corner grip but held up well in regards to wear.

I've decided to go for the Continental Sport Contact 7 over the Goodyear F1 Supersport, but in 235/40 R18.

Unfortunately CSC7 doesn't come in a 245/40 R18 until April 2023 (which Conti have confirmed).

I'm also a bit wary that with 245/40 I might not have enough room to clear the struts (standard suspension but camber bolts running -2.5 deg).

So playing it safe with the 235. Will add some photos when they get fitted soon.

If anyone had used camber bolts and is running 245s, please chime in! :)

I’m out of the loop, but I liked AO52s or ZZRs on a light car that needed list 1b but if you can get a spare set of wheels put some slicks on it in the correct size.
Ask deano or Lauren what the fast guys are running these days (it’s usually not a secret as you can go look)
imo putting the right tyre on is better than fitting wider ones.

@Amjad - if your car is not a dd, then you could go for Toyo R888R's. Superb grip and ok in the wet, but don't like standing water and are quite noisy.

Heard very good things about the Sport Contact 7, nice to see they have started selling it in 18" now. Top of my list for when I need new summer tyres.

I hear A052's are meant to be very good, but they are quite pricey.

You're right in that a narrower semi slick will do better than a wider road biased tyre. At the moment I don't have spare wheels to run a TD only tyre.

I do use it as a daily at the moment so unfortunately wouldn't be viable.

Hope to buy a set of track wheels in the future. The new AD09 looks like it might be a good option for such a use case.

I ran these for two sprint series. My initial numbers with AD08R Yokos which are around the same wear is that the Yokos are going to be faster as well as usable in the wet. Bear in mind for the sprints you start with cold or barely warm tyres so not a track equivalent check. The R888R are stupidly noisy while the worn AD08Rs are just noisy.

Won't really know until I run the same tracks as the end of last year at the same temps. I will be running the Fiesta first up on AR-1s to bed them in and see if I managed to fit the itbs properly and not screw things up...

I quite liked the AD08R on my Starlet. Heard mixed reviews about the R888R in terms of grip vs wear.

I've had a set on the GRY, very good but they don't last long. I will try AR-1 or Cup2 this year.
Heard very good things about AR1s, they're pretty much the go-to semi slick for dry use aren't they?

Hope the link works. I don’t know if they are list 1b, lots of rally tyres are road legal.
I looked at used circuit slicks but they don’t do narrow 18” so for track work you may need to go 17” as some others have done.
For purely road tyres the ones it comes with are pretty much as good as it gets.
Wouldn't have thought these were legal. I'd love to experience full slicks at some point, but I'm not a great passenger 😅

CSC7 have arrived, they look a lot more round at the shoulders than I was expecting but I'll reserve judgement until they're fitted up.

They also measure up a little small as expected for a road biased tyre, at 220mm from one horizontal sipe to the other (bare in mind tape measure is straight and tyre is slightly curved so appears narrower in the photo). Would be worth checking what the OEM tyre measures up as actually..

And finally tread depth from inside to outside

Hope to have them mounted up later this week!

This size of tyre will change the gearing by around 9%, ie less acceleration higher speed for same revs. This may or may not be what you want.

I'm looking forward to the photos, as 235s is my plan as well. For me it's that I don't like my wheels being further outboard than the tires.

9% no way, it's like 2,45% which may still be illegal

245/40 are illegal here, Qld, too big an increase in diameter over stock for a car. We can go +50mm on 4wds though. Cars are limited to +15 so just over.
When I get my draggy I intend to do some 0-100 times for my 235s vs the 225s on the factory rims.
