Nuts, nuts, 🥜

Wondering what you guys recommend for Lug Nuts?
What alloy is best? Aluminium? Titanium? Stainless Steel?

What features or Types? Racing? With Collar to protect the Rims?

What spec? Size? Any recommendations? M12 x 1.5? M12 x 1.25? I'm not sure what the spec of the car is?

Forged 16" alloys if you're going for a weight reduction. :p Most will probably want to stick to some reasonably priced lightweight 18" flow-formed alloys, though.

Wheel nut type will depend on the wheel of your choosing, but they would still be M12x1.25 (unless you change the wheel studs too).

I've had to buy some fairly unusual ones for my OEM BBS alloys, as they require radius seat style nuts in M12x1.25, and only Rimstyle sold those in the UK from what I could see.

Does anyone know what length nuts we need to replace the stock nuts?

I personally use Rays, Duraluminum ( 7076 T6 Aluminum) ones on my BRZ & Rays Steel on my brothers GR86.
For material I'd be looking at 7076 T6 Aluminum, SCM435 ChromeMoly Steel or Titanium (titanium nuts are generally very expensive and nearly always open-ended).

Its equally as important to buy from a known quality brand, not ones from AliExpress because you prefer the good.
Look at Rays, Work Wheels, TPI, TRD, STi, Muteki

Type or features is generally down to personal preference. I personally like the long tuner style nuts. The one thing I'd say to avoid is open ended nuts as they can cause your studs to rust, get dirt trapped, etc.

As mentioned by @Grblue86

ARP:
100-7727 - Standard Length - 1.750˝
100-7728 - Slightly larger due to a Rounded Nose - 1.950˝
100-7729 - Extended with rounded nose - 2.535˝

I have aftermarket wheels on my GR86 and the current wheel nuts are starting to look a bit tired and corroded.

Could anyone help me choose the correct replacement nuts? I'm a complete novice when it comes to wheel nuts, sizes, seat types, etc., so I don't want to order the wrong ones.

I've attached a few pictures with measurements of my current nuts. The wheels are Japan Racing SL01s.
  • Overall length: 37.21 mm
  • Outside diameter: 19.41 mm
  • Seat/flange diameter: 27.50 mm
Any recommendations or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

You need to buy ‘Tuner Nuts’. The first most important measurement is thread size, which for the GR86 OEM wheel studs is M12x1.25, once you’ve narrowed that down it’s a matter of making sure that they are ‘internal’ thread as you can’t put a standard external thread nut on as the socket won’t fit in the holes. The general outside diameter of M12x1.25 nuts is 19mm and they come with a key that inserts into the nut to tighten. The 37mm length is less common than 32mm, which are more readily available and cheaper.
I have bought many sets from eBay in different finishes (see inserted image of my purchase history) all of which are steel. Don’t buy anything Aluminium or you may end up with seized nuts due to cold welding from different metals.
TLDR: Buy m12x1.25 slim/internal Tuner Nuts.
