GR86 Neptune Blue (Dunfermline)

Is it worth taking them back to the place that did the refurb? I had exactly the same issue when I had the OEM wheels on my first GT86 refurbed - centre caps didn't fit. I ended up fettling the caps themselves, but it was a bit of a bodge. A couple of years later when they started to peel, I took the wheels to a more reputable place, and they were perfect, and I went to the same place last year with the GR86 wheels, and the centre caps are fine.
I'd toyed with the idea, but tbh the bloke is so busy that everything there takes soooo long 😴 and I can't be ar$ed with the place anymore - After fitting the BBK I waited 3 months for my OEM Calipers to be resprayed by him (ready to go back on when I sell) and well over a month for him to do these. If I ever re-fit these wheels and they do start to peel, or if I go to sell the car, I'll take them to a known decent place, like 'The Wheel Specialist' in Edinburgh and have them put back to Satin Black.

Used the latest period of nice weather to buff out the powder coat from the wheel centers using some graded buffing wheels from AliExpress, then re-coated the exposed areas with satin black touch-up paint. What a dusty job that was!!
The result is now perfectly fitting (new) OEM center caps, all nicely aligned with the valves. Tyres inflated, cleaned and all items re-stowed ready for Spring.

Copied across from the "What did you do with your GR86 today", purely for inclusion and update to my own Members Cars thread.

Latest 'Show-Mod' for 2026: Engine Cover from AliExpress, with an added a metal GR emblem and painted silver bolt ends in red to blend in a bit.

On the ‘rough’ looking parts like the alternator I use fine grade Steel Wool or small Copper wire brushes to remove the oxidisation. More shiny parts, like pipe ends, ECU casing and the under tray surface I use Wadpol ‘Supershine’ Aircraft Polish.
Edit: I should have added that I often use the steel wool to rub on ‘Autosol’ before buffing to a shine…

Car back from its annual maintenance treatment at my local Gtechniq & Xpel accredited Detailer and now featuring on their Instagram. All ready for the ‘Drive It Day Scotland’ and then SCITP the following week.

Looking good! How do you rate them as a detailer/PPF company?
I’ve been using them for years and have always had a great service. Barry used to race for Porsche, taught the same and absolutely loves his cars - he takes pride in what the business does and being a fully accredited centre, many owners of exotic motors trust him to take care of their pride and joy.

Hi Sonic, I have stumbled into GR-Zoo as I'm considering joining the GR 86 fold. I've got to say, your 86 looks stunning. True dream spec. Hats off to you

That’s very kind of you to say so, thank you! I do try my best to look after it.
