GR Yaris Does anyone have both a Yaris and an electric car?

I had a Superb 280 L&K for a couple of years. Genuinely a brilliant family car, even if the ride and handling was a bit iffy.

Not sure I could put up with 150hp (or whatever) in one though 😂
I suspect the handling was a bit iffy because you had the 280 :)

OK the performance of the 1.4 isn't amazing by modern standards, but it's 0-60 and top speed are both better than the 1.9GTi that I had back in the 80's so it's not exactly slow. But then I bought it as a family wagon, not a sports car.

Our two daily drivers are the gen 2 GRY manual and a Polestar 2 LRSM 2026, we also have three old cars from the 90s just for fun, a 1993 Corolla swapped with a 4A-GE Blacktop, a 1990 Suzuki Alto Works RS/R and a 1991 Suzuki Vitara SWB convertible. I'm not gonna talk about the financial aspect of owning those cars because the Polestar is my company car and I also do a lot of homeworking so it's easy for my wife and I to share the EV as much as we want at no cost, which makes it easier to buy fun cars, so I'm in no position to tell anyone how they should invest their money.

The GRY is our second daily, we go to the office once or twice a week with it, we do small trips with it to the grocery store, and we take it on longer backroads trips when visiting family or just for fun, mostly in the evenings or the weekends, we've had it for a year and clocked 12000km so far.

The EV is our main daily, and even though I love analog cars of all kinds, I have to admit the EV is the perfect daily for us, we have a charging station at home so we can start everyday with a full battery if necessary, the EV drivetrain is a real game changer in terms of comfort, the one pedal drive functionality works really well too (it's not always the case, I've tested other brands like Mercedes and BMW and it wasn't as good), and I added the Zinc leather interior and climate pack so it's a really nice place to be as well. Of course it's also heavy as hell and completely numbing, imo it's the best way to go A to B, but that's it.

Now has the switch to an EV main daily changed our way to use the other cars ? Yes, it has made it even more fun and entertaining to take any other car we own, because the contrast is huge in every aspects, sound, touch, smell, and of course driving dynamics.

Just remembered that the owners of two of biggest tuner/car aftermarket around me with a lot of JDM, have been discretely dailying EVs for quite some time. Back when I was going to get my first EV, that worked as quite a validation for me that it's "OK" to like both...

I nearly did this a few weeks back and found the EV very dull but capable in many ways and just updated the first car instead with a newer version. Also looked at an Alpine A290 and couldn't do it, even though I have a thing for the new Renault 5.

Economics should not be a consideration - if still enthusiastic about the Toyota - which I am. I get that the practicalities of life are important but the GRY is a one-off not to be repeated.

It stays.

Have a BMW i4 e40 M-sport and the GRY. The i4 is the perfect relaxing car to drive on a commute or long journey, the GRY is the car to take on a cross-country enjoyable drive. Don't get me wrong, the i4 has amongst the best driving dynamics of any electric car, and even compared to a RWD ICE BMW is pretty good.
The one huge difference is corner speeed and brakes. The stopping and cornering power of the GRY is just massively better, especially brakes, which is when the i4 suddenly remebers it weighs over 2 ton.
GRY and any electric car is a great two-car garage IMO.

And don't get me wrong, but my brother has one too which I've driven on and beyond the traction circle, and it's not even close to my Ioniq 5 N (full phat M model equivalent). For the record ;)

My main daily is a Tesla 3 Performance.
The battery failed two months ago (85k km on the clock) and was replaced under warranty with a brand spanking new one. It’s like having a new car… for free.
The car can be preheated and precooled and is very comfortable indeed. Great sound system too! It could have better road and wind noise insulation… and better materials overall, but it makes for an amazing “zero worries car”. No service schedule, just drive.

I test drove a 5N when I was looking at getting the i4. Impressive bit of kit but just didn't float my boat and lack of electric seats was a deal breaker for the daily unfortunately. I think that applies to all EVs for me - great for everyday transportation (where the GR would just be painfull) but for driver dynamics and enjoyment nothing comes close.

I must be different then. While you notice the weight going slow very well, once you up the ante the dynamics really start to shine and the sense of weight disappears. I've had to adjust my views on weight and fun seriously since. My GT86/GRY were seriously fun, but so is the 5N....

And electric seats, how does that help comfort? I rather sit lower..

My GR has been my daily since 21 and never fails to put a grin on my dial. Just went to get some milk and felt better for the trip . Have a Lancia Aprilia for reality.

A GR painful for everyday transportation?

I must be driving it wrong or something. Seems fine to me!😁 Ok
Need to see photos of that!
Vincenzo’s masterpiece ! I presume you don’t want to see the milk!
