What is your preference - to have some engine sounds through a speaker, because it's better than nothing, or disable it because it's either annoying or you just can't bear the idea of fake car noises in a sports car?

3 poll options, as you might prefer to disable it and fit a different exhaust.

I turned it off and have an aftermarket exhaust. However I think it sounded better turned off even before I fitted that.
I'd like an aftermarket exhaust, but don't really need to spend more money, and I know the Mrs would prefer if it was a quiet car, so I'm planning to just disable the fakery (I don't really like fake anything), but I thought I'd check what others think. The last decent car I had (Impreza) sounded good, and it might come as a shock to have a silent (except for road noise) sports car.

I was fine with it turned on before I changed the exhaust, I'd rather that than nothing as I think it'd be too quiet without. Now I have changed the exhaust and turned it off it's better without.

My other car is an STi and honestly driving the GR is like driving an electric car in comparison. I'm 2 weeks into ownership and I can barely hold on any longer before buying an exhaust.

I still have the sounds on too, but still below 1k run in.

I don't like the idea of fake engine noises but I was willing to give it a go. I suffered the sound for a few months before disconnecting the wire.

I much prefer the natural sound of the engine. A bit more noise would be nice but I've got no plans to do anything about it.

After hearing the stories how bad the fake engine noise was, I was thinking myself that I would have to do something about it however have been quite impressed. Car stays reasonably quiet at low revs which is great for general cruising, then above 4000RPM the noise progressively cuts in without being too intrusive. To me it sounds quite authentic. Will be keeping it.

Does anyone have the link for disabling the sound generator noise so I can send it to my nominated dealer?

They haven't done it before and aren't sure, but I know there's a thread on it somewhere....

Perfect, thank you.

It's also a 30 seconds job if you want to simply disconnect the module from the passenger side

Do you have any photos or instructions how to access/do this please? Im not at all good with anything car electrics and likely to do something daft!

I've had my car 10 months, up to 3-4k I dont mind the sound as at least there is some but 4+ it sounds like a playstation and really starting to irritate me. I want to disconnect see how that is then determine whether to go for some sort of exhaust.

HERE. The post shows you what the Sound Generator box (located behind the glove box) looks like. Find it and pop off the white plug. Job done.
