GR86 GR86 paint seems very thin

Sometimes you ask a question before you look - sorry! 🤦‍♂️Didnt expect Toyota to have touch up online https://toyotadirectparts.co.uk/parts/toyota-universal-accessories/toyota-touch-up-stick-g1u/ for Silver, paint code on the VIN plate inside door jam.
Chipex does have the full kit including brushes etc
I have bought.......and used a few times!! the touch up from your link for the pearl white K1X paint code.....to be honest its very good, and my philosophy is drive the thing and get the front resprayed as you mentioned in a couple of years time....still works out a damn site cheaper than PPF!!

I seek guidance from the wise!!
Ive picked up a beauty of a stone chip on the wing mirror !!
Does anyone know the paint code for it please?

It's the same black as the black car. My OEM black spoiler matched the mirrors on my white car.

D4S from memory but double check.

Got some bird poop on the car while on holiday a couple of weeks back, finally got round to “washing” the car (tesco jet wash) and it looks like its taken the paint off, take it only a smart repair is going to cure this?

you're brave for using a jet wash 😅
is it raised? when you run a fingernail through it does it "drop" and get caught or just catches it? it looks to me like a residue, but hard to tell from a picture.

if it is - get a microfibre, tar remover (I've used Autoglym) and a lot of patience and try to rub it off. if it does come off eventually but leaves a haze or microscratches - that can be polished out.

It looks / feels like it drops, have tried bird lime remover and stubborn mark remover but no change at all

I think I'd contact Toyota, surely manufacturers paint shouldnt be that susceptible to severe damage from something as common as a dropping?
I've not had mine ceramic coated but that might be one of the few things that can provide adequate protection to the paint from contaminants etc. Even bee poo seems to leave a stain behind that needs additional cleaning. Not sure what these cars will look like in 10 years!

I got a massive Black lump on my Bonnet which when dry just curled up & peeled off. One of the benefits of CC I guess.

CC and PPF is supposed to protect paint but isn't fool proof and it's so damaging I reckon it would eat through CC too. Had some on the PPF that left a mark but started healing. If it doesn't totally I'll ask my detailer.

Wow that is pretty horrific. Cars get shat on everyday and that can't be an everyday occurrance. Do you have a local detailer that could do a paint depth reading? It looks almost as though a layer has been left off!

Bird poo is acidic, a nice fluffy little Christmas Card Robin doesnt carry a very big payload, a Seagull however is a flying chemical weapon!!
I took a heavy payload on my old Vectra many years ago on the bonnet and left it a few days...paint was totally knackered!!
Ive got a ceramic and the first sign of an aerial attack I still wash it straight off.
I would as you say get a smart repair company to look at that and get an appraisal off them.

I'm not convinced this has eaten through the paint at all. Bird poo damage would normally result in clear coat etchings, but that can be polished off to the limit of the clear coat left on your paint.

My approach to cleaning this would be an APC wash of the boot, followed by a clay bar and a light polishing compound if required.

Having the car waxed or sealed regularly will always give it some extra protection, but as others have said, best way to deal with bird poo is to wash it off as soon as you can.

Tried to take a better photo and check it with a straight edge, definitely taken the paint off, and the straight edge scratched itView attachment 17270
That's frankly terrible and I'd be trying to claim it under warranty as poor quality or defective paint.

Did you have any form of protection on it when the damage happened?

Ive never seen anything like that before from bird droppings, as mentioned above you normally get a damaged top coat that can be machine polished out but that has gone through everything. I've said it before but the paint thickness/quality is so thin/poor. Is there even a clear coat/lacquer on the paint!?
Ive just got mine back from full front & rear bumper PPF (side skirts done when new) and already wish I'd done the PPF when I got the car, minor marks that are in the paint not the clear coat, the PPF installer said the paint is so thin he would be worried about doing much more than a light machine polish, anything aggressive or cutting will go straight through the paint.

Never seen anything like that before - could it have reacted with something on the car?

Only a Few months of london road filth

The paint is beyond a joke on the non metal panels which is seemingly the whole front apart from the bonnet. I'm down to the black abs or whatever it is made of, in at least 8 areas in 4k miles - never thought ppf was anything but snake oil from influencers but probably should have some it seems

My silver car had several noticeable chips which showed as black across the bumper and even a minor ding on the bonnet from a stone. I had PPF fitted to the side skirts as shoes catch that getting in and out and its worked well, I just had the whole front end done in PPF and rear bumper on the basis that if in 1800 miles chips are so obvious and starting to make a mess then I might as well try and protect it. Unfortunately PPF is best when paint is new but there are some very good touch up pens (I used Paint Nuts) which if done by a pro can mask 90% of the chip mark and then have PPF added.
Im pleased with the PPF result (XPEL Ultimate) its glossy and invisible unless you look for it, never felt the need to do a rear bumper but figures one day someone or something is going to breath on it and it'll scuff or mark!
I think they'd have been better painting it with chocolate personally.
