Has anyone had their windshield swapped out yet?

I had a chip filled a few months ago by Autoglass but it's continuing to grow. Not looking forward to the techs taking the trim and wipers off the car to get the glass out ๐Ÿซค

I've had a crack on mine since the first day of driving it properly. Autoglass have repaired it, but still very visible and right in the middle. Asked for a replacement screen to which they claimed the had one in stock. No surprise it turned out to be for the GT86 when they came to fit it.
Still waiting for a replacement, 5 weeks(ish) now.

Autoglass now have windscreens in stock. Am booked in May 2nd for a replacement.
Do you know if they have OEM Toyota ones or aftermarket? Had a windscreen replaced on a newish car previously and they were going to fit an aftermarket one, but told insurer I wanted OEM which they did.

Never thought to ask, but I will now and let you know. Is there much difference between OEM and aftermarket windscreens?

I think it's more of a preference thing, keeping the car OEM, etc. I'm not sure I rate the glass Toyota's used anyway tbh.

I've never had problems with aftermarket windscreens, but that's probably just coincidence.

Probably not much difference, I guess nice to have Toyota stamped on it as per the original rather than something else. On my other car I just asked the insurance to fit OEM glass and they didnโ€™t argue, just took a couple of extra days to get it.

Anyone know how much it costs without insurance out of interest?

Autoglass have left me a VM stating it's not OEM. I can request OEM but they will have to get approval from the insurance company.

I'm in no rush, better to keep it OEM?

Personally I think the OEM screen seems to scratch far too easily so it wouldn't bother me trying something else.

I think there's arguments for and against going OEM. I'd prefer to keep it original, but just like Toyota's paint quality, it's probably inferior to aftermarket products in some ways.

In any case, would you be happy to share their decision, who the insurer is and what the excess was for reference?

@Gari I shouldn't have said anything about the size of your stone chip compared to mine at Japfest. I got another chip or two on the way back...

Admiral and I paid ยฃ25 for the chip repair and I've been quoted ยฃ90 for the windscreen.
I'll probably go with 3rd party one tbh, but will sleep on it.

Autoglass have told me they're going to arrange a warranty visit once the glass is in stock. Should hopefully be a free swap ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Sodโ€™s Law I cracked mine and I have a tiny chip on the other side.

Either the windscreen quality is absolutely shocking or the PPF has paid for itself as the front is spotless.

Anyone managed to get a replacement fitted yet? Still waiting for my call back.

Did anyone get their windscreen protected with PPF? If so, has it helped with chips etc...? My windscreen has a chip in it and i've only done 1500 miles.

Ah glad to see I'm not alone, I got a chip right on the edge a couple weeks ago and it cracked across the drivers side, also waiting on AutoGlass, they told me none in stock, nothing about whether it was OEM or not, still waiting.. Surprised there's so many of us ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…

There's definitely a number of us on the forum already. I got my first chip before Christmas and the next two (tiny ones) on the drive back from Japfest a couple of weeks back. Thankfully no cracks (thus far).
