Had this two times today
all drives in sport mode, TC and line assistance all off.

1st time in roundabout - went for a small slide and collision detection thought there is a obstacle(?) and steering wheel got really stiff which scared me as I don't want anything to touch steering especially when in corner.

2nd time in straight, did small power slide and there collision detection flashed but did nothing.

Anyone else having these weird interruptions? I'd prefer have that system off all the time if it is acting in wrong places. It is scary to think it could became active any time during driving. Had similar issues with B8 Passat but not happy if same goes with GR.

Appears that collision detection is not off at least when in sport mode, even though all traction and ESP systems are off.

I thought collision avoidance was completely off when going beyond expert mode? Sounds peculiar and very worrying! I haven’t had any issues yet, but interested in hearing how this turns out.

Even if the system is left on on the background, it sounds like it shouldn’t have reacted the way it did.

As far as I know it just disables the auto braking and noise but will still flash if detected.

I dont mind flashing but messing up the steering is not something I want. I'll maybe call service on monday and ask how it should work.

I noticed this in one of Misha Charoudin's videos last year, same parameters with everything "off". See below I have linked when it happens.

Yeah maybe the same issue? Though Misha seemed still to have lane assistance on.

Yes but logic would dictate they are separate systems. Although, logic would also dictate "Expert" means everything OFF ;)

Maybe the safety system logic designers were part French :p

Yes I assumed TC dictates the collision detection - at least so it indicates in the dash that they would be off in expert and all off modes..?

It may only appear on the dash but no autonomous action is taken. Still, the noise alone is alarming.

Asked our local maintenance.
Firstly they had difficulties understanding how esp is taken off, and actually knew only expert mode and normal driving mode. If anyone has better contact with Toyota service dept it would be great to know if collision detection can really be taken off. I start to think that syvecs etc would actually be a safety update to avoid any interruptions to steering during ’regular’ driving.

Us in the Capital region should really settle on one place to take our cars in for servicing and let them work on the GR. Then we'll maybe end up with a dealership that actually has some experience in the Yaris and we'll get our little "Gazoo Racing Garage".

Sounds like a good idea. I've used Lohjan Autokeskus and they at least have good servicing attitude but bit further away. though you can drive there via great b-roads so it is actually not that bad location.. Any other suggestions?

to be frank I didn't know GR had collision avoidance system. I knew it had automatic braking but not that it had any steering related collision avoidance..

Neither did I. And I’m not sure even now that it has a system for taking over the steering?

Could it be just that the power steering unit crapped out for second? Some kind of a glitch or something?

I’ve heard that some people have had that on the track where you lose powersteering for a split second and the steering wheel becomes very heavy.

Yeah it is possible. though if it was system related error maybe it should be visible in the diagnostics. Though at least nothing in the MyT (shows airbag errors from the bumper removal). It was 'stiff' maybe 0.3-0.5s so not typical power steering error, those often are reset only after car restart?

Got the same issue today. This time in expert mode. Was driving easy so managed to read the fault in dash - it said collision detection error - visit your dealer. Most likely I will
