GR86 Test Drives Email!

Dealer looked me up on the Toyota system and said that March 23 is the suggested delivery. Nothing has been updated on MyToyota, its still showing “processing” for the 10:42 order time
Good to hear a (sort of) delivery estimate - I’m was a minute later on the order…🤙

Went for a RT over at Somerset County Cars this morning.

Ryan my dealer point of contact was lovely, he‘d got some extra juice in the Red MT with 79 miles on it, made me sign a £500 excess, took the keys to my 120d and told me to go of and play for 2 hours.

in the end I did 44 miles of A303, some B roads, and the odd bit of getting lost of C roads. Plenty enough time to play, across all road conditions.

The gearbox was great, the clutch fine, riding position perfect( I’m only 5ft 5). For aome reason (🤪) the track mode button wouldn’t work, but given the very low mileage I’d not have driven it in track mode I just wanted to see the display change.

Engine is nice and linear, did a 6th to 4th and a few pace driving moments, 20 up to (5th amendment) was fun. Its very easy to run up over national speed limits. Nothing is neck breaking, but given the engine size and aspirated engine you can’t expect RS Audi speeds.

Where the car shines is pin sharp handling and a very nice feel of full control even on greasy, cold, leaf covered roads. You know you going quick, but it doesn’t feel bothered and gives a big heap of driver confidence. This car would make Ms Daisy a formula driver.

Cabin was comfy, everything pretty well much to hand, stereo isn’t a bose, but is adequate. The piped in noise is fine, although hitting near full rev’s does resonate overly loud- I think its Toyota’s way of saying watch your speed.

Somerset County Cars is my dealership as well, but I couldn't be bothered with the demo. Have you seen Magnetite Grey one somewhere out there? Apparently mine arrived to the dealership now, and will be ready for pickup somewhere next week hopefully...

I’m Yeovil branch, apparently the only one. Yours must be Tauton?

Very nice I have gone for red. My demo was white and I am thinking I wish I had gone white now. A few people have said about track mode not being active. You do have to press and hold for several second to activate

I'm going to have my first whinge on the whole process. Having learned that Leeds had a demo car in, have been down there twice, 1st visit the car wasn't ready, took my details promised me a call in the next couple of week to arrange test drive. Call never came, 2 weeks after couldn't get through on a Friday afternoon, my son and I popped in on the Sunday to see if we could have a look at it - they kindly brought it out. Very pleased with what I saw.
They asked me who my nominated dealer was, Wakefield. Said they would sort out, took my details again.
Next call was from Wakefield saying they were going to get the cars to there's the following weekend, but no unaccompanied test drive, said they wanted to be in the car with me - we were hoping to take a test drive with the wife, my son and myself - see how we all would fit in (going to be a squeeze).
I don't get why dealerships give different levels of test drives? It's not their car, it's owned by Toyota online.

Yeh it’s really frustrating that each dealer has control over the test drive process. It should be standard across the board in cases like this. Everyone gets an hr or 2 and certainly shouldn’t have to pay a deposit.

My dealer making me go through hoops too. To the point I think they don't want me testing it.

Just had a drive in a silver demo, 30 mins accompanied so nothing really to add to the more in depth reviews elsewhere. It lived up to expectations which I thought it would. Heated seats were nice (got noticeably warm reasonably quickly and turned them off part way through the drive) on the coldest day of the year since last winter! Long line of glue on the one wing which stood out against the silver paint, looked like it had been keyed!

VN72NUK was the number, no pics due to the brief time available.

Thanks for the info, what dealership was it ?

Oh f**k there goes my "silver will hide the glue marks/imperfections" theory.

I finally got a test drive yesterday at Gillingham. They've got the ducktail on theirs and it does look great.

I thought the car was better than my high expectations. Really reminded me of an RX-8 I used to have with everything a little bit nicer. To these ears, it even sounded pretty similar at high revs!

Clutch took a lot of getting used to compared to the lump of concrete in my Alfa and the indicators are stupid but kind of endearing.

Very excited now!

Are you sure about the spoiler? When I drove that car it didn't have any extra spoiler, just the standard one. Great to hear you liked the car :)

Really?? I wouldn’t have thought they’d have been able to modify the demo cars.

RRG's has already got an exhaust on it:

Bit far for me, but looks like @v8s had a similar experience. When Wakefield contact me tomorrow to arrange a test drive, I'm going to insist an an unaccompanied test drive for at least 1hr, similar to what others have received. If they won't comply, I'll be contacting Toyota online and asking them to change my nominated dealer to Leeds and go through them.
