Parkers are stating auto as 45 and manual as 50.

The GT86 is 33/34.

In context a 911 Turbo, a Maybach and so many hyper sports cars are a group… 50.

Seems totally reasonable that a 235 bhp £31k car is a group 50 🤣

Fortunately I’m an old fooker, and have full NCD (17 years since any claim).

May be something to with the fact there are very few in the UK.

Toyota Supra 3.0 (turbo) - group 37, Porsche Cayman 4.0 - group 46, Toyota GR86 2.4 - group 50?! I think it'll be a case of trying a few insurers, and maybe phoning some specialists to get a sensible quote when the time comes.

I've never paid much attention to insurance groups. I ring up, they quote based on your circumstances and it's what it is. For a year based on the price I got for 9mths cover (to the end of the policy) I expect it to be less than £200/yr

Well smack my bum and call me Bernard - Thatcham has it listed as 50D which seems odd.

The D bit signifies:
"D = Does not meet the security requirement for a car of this type and the group rating has therefore been increased. (e.g. A group 9 car where the security requirement is not up to Thatcham’s minimum standard for that group will be listed as a 10D.)"

So my guess is they haven't tested one yet.

Bernard 😂 , I‘d guess that’s the case an Insurers will err on the side of caution , ie empty your pockets, until they are 100% sure on the risk profile of said vehicle 🤔

This I reckon. They don't have a lot to go on yet, and don't thatcham get their hands on one to inspect it thoroughly for security flaws and the like and is it them or someone else who will have to go over with a fine tooth comb to see how it is constructed with a view to costing potential repairs and how easy they will be to repair crash damage? Seeing as no-one has got their hands on one yet they are flying blind on it so just being cautious.

So, not sure how this is assessed - but is it likely to change before we receive the cars?
Going to be a bit galling if we have to buy expensive insurance and then the group is changed after the event which might have meant a lower premium.

I think they will be assessed more accurately once they have physical access to one as per my post above, so if they have one right now they are working on then they will revise the group lower after assessment. It will depend on how soon they can get hold of one, I would be surprised if they don't have access to one now since deliveries look to be quite soon.

Might be an idea to ask TUK about there insurance. Since my car hasn’t moved from processing there’s no point in me doing it.

Maybe someone who will get a December delivery could ask?

Fine, as long as they give me an insurance group 50 car if I ever need a courtesy car 👀
I’ve had 2 courtesy cars in my life and they’ve both been Hyundai i10! Even though I’ve had “like for like” courtesy cars on my policy.

3 day free Toyota insurance email received!!
Gives you a year's worth of quote (so might be worth doing if Toyota are not applying the group 50 nonsense) which you don't need to take up to get the 3 days free to get your pride and joy home.
It's set to start from your handover date according to the email.

Ive just been told:

39D for the Auto

45D for the Manual

Bloody hell that's high.
My Focus RS is only a 42E. Even a 5.0L V8 Bullitt Mustang is only 43E
