There's only a short window to order the long-awaited sports coupé; any replacement will likely be electrified

This is the official statement from Toyota, it wont be legal for unregistered cars to be sold , I’m assuming after 31.12.2023, so dealers would have to pre register any unsold cars (not an issue). In reality the U.K. sales lifespan of the GR86 may be less than the GR Yaris. 😳☹️

There we go, no more speculation;

This retrofitting is what will kill off the Toyota GR86. The camera needed for intelligent speed assistance (ISA) and emergency lane-keeping system (ELKS) can’t easily be built into the car’s architecture, which was carried over from the Toyota GT86, designed more than a decade ago.

“We would have to raise the roof and move the windscreen to accommodate the camera,” said Toyota, which announced the GR86’s short European-market lifespan of just two years at its launch.

Meh, add a roof scoop and stick the camera in it, job done.

At last what appears to be a straight forward , logical and understandable answer 👍 What is difficult to understand is why Toyota were so reticent to give a straightforward answer from the start 🤷‍♂️

Does this mean they will have sell all their GR86 by July 2024?
Not sale, but register.

Its possible to order a lot and register (here you can register a car for a dealer/company) them before Juli 24, but sale them laaaater.

Now they just need to give us a reason as to why they are being held until October. One statement is all it takes, I've been pressing Toyota HQ for this statement but they simply won't say.

(What) Did they answer?

I hate all this shite.

If people focused on their driving instead of fiddling with gadgets/their phone, and sought additional driver training, this would have more impact than a load of inconsistently-functioning systems which give a false illusion of safety, thereby reducing attention and increasing risk.

Apologies for the above post I'm grumpy today cos

1) It's hot
2) Work's annoying
3) Ain't got me GR86 yet

Hi Matthew,

Thanks for your email. I appreciate the reason for your contact.

Unfortunately, as you are aware, Toyota is experiencing delays in delivery of the new GR86. I can only apologise and understand the inconvenience this causes. I am sorry that I have no further information for you at this stage, I appreciate that this may not answer all the questions you have, but I would like to thank you for your ongoing patience.

The latest information we have is that the estimated delivery time is expected to be from the end of September onward

Just the usual type of response. I have pressed further but had no reply.

One of the problems with “Big Corporates” no one dare say anything without getting it signed off at a “lofty level” by , Legal , PR , Marketing , Operations , Production, Country CEO , Regional CEO etc etc etc , been there done that, but NEVER FORGET

TOYOTA U.K. SOLD OUT THE ENTIRE GR86 2 YEAR ALLOCATION IN 90 MINUTES

PS No mention of the Early Birds as that doesn’t fit the narrative 😂😂😂

I find this statement confusing - AT cars already have the Subaru eyesight system with twin cameras that allows lane keep assist, adaptive cruise etc.
