Hi All,

Just curious about people's experience with paint touch up kits with their GR86, weather to go with Toyota's official kit or a third party kit like Chipex? Just a little hesitant to go with someone like Chipex since the DCK Red is unique and not common in the UK. Having a browse on the forums couldn't see a clear standout on which is best to go for, so I'm all ears!

Thanks.

This is weird, because I was considering making a thread asking if anyone else had used Chipex. I ordered from them last week (Electric Blue). I entered my reg number on the site, it correctly identified the VIN, but the colour just said "Blue". No worries, I assumed maybe their site didn't show the precise colour code at ordering, or I would get a chance to confirm before confirmation. I didn't the order went through, I assumed if they had the VIN, they'd send the right colour.

Anyway, the kit arrived yesterday and the paint code supplied is "TOY 8U7", which looking it up is "Electra Blue" for a Toyota Aygo. Electric (or Neptune) blue for our cars is code "DAR". The paint is quite noticeably darker than I expected, although to be fair, that was just from looking at the bottle. I can't find "DAR" using a search of their website paint swatches.

I've sent them an email asking if this is a mistake, or if 8U7 is a direct match for DAR. Somehow I doubt it, but I'll let you know.

Yeah I'm pretty confident they sent the wrong paint for yours, because they've used DAR on the GT86 for the Club Series Blue edition, so it should be readily available, they even have it on their website specifically!

Oh! I couldn't find DAR looking through their website.
Well I haven't opened any of the bottles, so hopefully they will just agree to swap them out. I'll see what they say.

Fingers crossed for ya! Please do let me know how get along with the kit, curious to see how it comes out!

I have a DAR kit from Chipex. Fortunately, I have never had to use it, yet.. So cannot say how good a match it is.

I am trying to login to my Chipex account to see what info I gave them. But, it seems they have disabled my account and the password reminder email has not arrived!!

So they do have the exact code then, definitely.
This is what I saw when I went to order...

So it even says where you can check the colour code, but I never got the opportunity to confirm it with them before the order finalised.

I bought a K1X Chipex kit for mine.
Initially the base coat supplied was too light. I emailed and they immediately sent out a darker shade. Was spot on.
You don’t get that option with Toyota imo.

Is that pearly white? A right bastard to match as I remember with my old car.

Annoyingly, it seems that rather than use my reg, I should have just used the manual look-up for our cars. I just tried that, and there, plain as day, is the option for "DAR".

Fingers crossed you can return the incorrect one.

I use Chipex it's been a perfect match for my GR and GT

One thing to consider is the shelf life, the Chipex kits have double the life of the dealer supplied touch up.

Yeah. Worked well on mine. Was only a very small mark.

Anyone tried this for Sapphire Blue?

I was going to buy this, but the postage was really dear. I ended up buying this off eBay:

Results look alright.

Just looked at the Chipex site and that seems like hard work!!
Ive used the Toyota K1X touch up previously and it does a very good job, need to do again soon although I fear I need to apply it with a roller!!
Im not a fan of the chips but Id rather drive it like a hire car and next year probably get the front resprayed and may look to PPF just the front bit, rest of car is holding up well to be fair.

I got a Chipex kit when they had a flash sale at the weekend. If there's a break in the winter weather I'll try it on my other car next week and then sort a small chip on my GR86 bumper, I'll do a post with the results. If you need to fix two cars it's possible to buy the kit and get an extra pot of paint in a different colour rather than buying two full kits.

Has anyone got experience of either Chipex or Toyota for Magnetite Grey?
Did you ever get any resolution on this? I looked on the Chipex site, but the code didn't include 'DAR' for Magnetite Grey. I managed to miss the stop blocks on the driveway the other day and rolled gently into the wall, producing two v small scuffs on the front bumper. Hardly noticeable, but you know what it's like when this sort of thing happens...
