Wheels done! Shadow chrome...

View attachment 31575

At first I wasn't sure. At drop off, they had asked how dark I wanted them because shadow chrome is a colour that can be variable depending on the number of chrome passes they make. Not wishing to be too blingy, I did say that perhaps I'd prefer them on the darker side. When I picked the car up, at first I was like "oh... :/ " because at first glance, they just looked glossier black, which I'm not a fan of.

However, after driving away and stopping to take some photos, I'm much happier. They could be still be a tad lighter (they are certainly darker than the shadow chrome I had on my GT), but at least they actually have some definition that you can see in person and a photograph, as they catch and reflect the light.

For anyone local, these were done at Rimtec Refurbs in Meopham. Would highly recommend them, this is the second time I've used them and they do fantastic work. Cost was £360 in total, including refitting new tyres - 225/40/R18 Goodyear F1AS6. Opinions on the tyres to come after a few more miles :)
Oh, I might have to revisit my choice of Shadow Chrome now. I would have to get them much lighter and in my opinion that's too dark (You are obviously happy, so that's all that matters).
Another couple of weeks before I change my wheels over to the winters and then I can decide . . .

I stood and ogled it from the kitchen window while I made a brew earlier. I love actually being able to see the wheel design now that the spokes can catch the light. Love this silly little car :D

Totally agree. The colour change has transformed the look of the wheels, they also look a bit bigger as they catch the light more.

Nice work!

Not today but over the weekend. Fitted Megane3 RS front brembos using the brackets from freaky parts. Rears are the STI calipers. Also changed to HEL braided lines while I was at it.

That looks great. Where did you source the rears from? Did you cobble it all together or buy it as a kit?

I found them online, been collecting parts since the start of the year.
For the fronts, I drew up brackets in CAD and had then 3D printed but by that stage the freaky parts brackets became available so I just used their kit. The front calipers I bought from Godspeed earlier in the year before their kit became available.

Bought myself the latest Autel MaxiTPMS TS508WF Kit (£150 from an Autel Authorised Distributor in an online sale), so that I can reprogram my own TPMS and avoid a 50 mile round trip just to get them reset come the Winter/Summer wheel swaps. Plus it means no more having to drive around hoping that they’ll start reading after a system reset - I can just push them up onto the ECU via the OBD. I can also keep a written record of sensor serial numbers and location for each set of wheels (geek on!). That said, it’ll likely take me until next Spring to read and digest the user manual 🤓

Do you need to read anything (with eyes) off the sensor to set it up or can it all be done wirelessly.

I asked a garage to clone my OEM sensors to my new wheels when they fit my tyres to the wheels. they don't work. getting to the sensors now would involve breaking the bead on the tyre.

I had a similar issue when I put my OEM wheels back on the car for Winter. Despite the Toyota manual stating that the ECU should remember two sets of TPMS, I found that my original set was not being seen. Three attempts with the manual reset button failed and I ended up driving to the place that did my wheels and had them do a relearn using their OBD Tool. They said a few GRs have had this problem.

The handheld device I have pings the TPMS sensor wirelessly through the tyre wall and records the data (Serial number, tyre pressure, temperature and battery state). Once the data from each sensor is stored on the tool, it can be attached via the vehicles OBD and the sensor data pushed up to the ECU. Sometimes you can see the TPMS info on the car's dashboard within a few minutes, although the tool does say to drive over 19mph for 10 minutes to check everything has updated.
