GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

Just back from a wee holiday made up of numbers, our first time abroad in 5 years - 16 days driving 3247 miles across 7 countries - France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Lichtenstein and Switzerland, staying in 9 hotels, and the best bits were the unplanned ones. 3 Museums, 2 Bavarian Castles and 6 Swiss Alpine Passes were added to stays or days in Dunkirk, Bruges, Ghent, Luxembourg, Strasbourg, Stuttgart, Bad Tolz, Innsbruck, Munich, Ruggel, Basel, Biel, Bern, Lusanne, Geneva, Annecy and Reims. 15 fridge magnets, 1 watch, 2 dog toys and 1 driving fine (so far), 136mph legal driving on a derestricted Autobahn (not fast enough) and memories a plenty. The car was great, used 1ltr of oil and was driven hard and fast most of the time. And, 1 self driving BMW under development we met in Stuttgart, the two operatives were happy to have a good chat about it. Only a sample of photos, as there is a post maximum 😁

Noticed a bit of moisture in the boot after the biblical rains, one to monitor.

Oil and filter change with Millers 0w20 at 16.5k miles today, straightforward no issues, looking forward to the placebo performance boost over the next few days 🤣

I won't need the car for work the week after next, so I popped to my local refurb place (Rimtec) to have a look at options and take the opportunity to book the car in for a wheel colour change. Going for shadow chrome, had it on my GT and it looked fab. Will report back when it's done but here's the sample wheel in their reception.

Going to change tyres at the same time. PS4s still have quite a bit of life left but I've had a few times where they haven't felt all that confidence inspiring. And they're loud. So while the wheels are off I'll get a new set on now.

After a somewhat traumatic day at work on Thursday which should have finished at 3:30pm meant actually leaving work at 9pm..

Drove through some surface water which I thought was just about passable..
Made it through and all the way home without issues.
Worked from home on Friday (a rare occurrence)
This morning, decided I should check the oil and there appears to be some water there
Haven’t started the car and have called the AA, don’t want to put any further risk into the equation..
(I noticed that the oil didn’t behave as it should normally, the drip spread out and soaked into the tissue and I noticed it didn’t look right on the dipstick either)

Awaiting the AA to show up, hopefully they can suction remove it all & can get it booked in for an fresh fill of oil, filter etc at a dealership or a another garage..
Following this up.. AA came out, all they could do was verify that the air filter was dry..
Debated with my wife on options..getting a mobile mechanic / calling the insurance company / contacting Toyota..
Didn’t manage to get anything booked with Toyota before the service departments closed at 1pm.. been worried about the car since.

One friend who used to work in engine development mentioned last night it could be coolant..

This afternoon, checking the oil again, the oil looks to be okay again (colour me thoroughly confused) will check where the level is sitting again later but the coolant is low… last service was 31st of July

Going to call Toyota in the morning..

The coolant header tank is a bit misleading. Because it's a long, thin shape, the distance between the low and high marks is quite large and it might look like the level is changing alarmingly between a cold engine and normal operating temps...and unlike a lot of other cars where you might expect the coolant level to be somewhere between these marks, when cold, the level should actually be on the LOW mark. So when you say it's low, does it just look like it because the level is quite far down the tank, or have you actually checked it's lower than the LOW marking?

If it's no lower than the marking, then you should be okay.

Good luck with getting it sorted - hope you and the good lady are both well

That sounds fantastic. (y)
Similarly, just got back from a packed 10 day trip, 2240 miles, same countries, plus Itay and Holland :)
Porsche museum and the excellent French National Car Museum in Mulhouse.
High passes were our focus, 3 guys in 2 cars. Left our wives at home, because they're not happy on those roads.

Happy days. Now planning the next one.

Hi, 99% sure you drove past me in Belgium on my return trip to Copenhagen and gave a thumbs up… my first spot of a GR86 on the road in my car (blue BRZ German reg). Cheered me up for a bit on a very long boring drive c15 hours. I did think it might be someone on here…. Sounds like a great trip.

Hi, yes it was me 😀 on my way to Rotterdam for the ferry.
You were the only BRZ I saw on the road. I did get waves and a flash of lights from a Red GR86 on the Grimsel pass and Tangerine GT86 on the Stelvio.
With so few cars out there, it's good to see another one and it made my day too.👍

The guys in the Porsche Cayman constantly had people waving and stopping to talk about the car. Cars that were far more exotic than ours would park next to us and chat. This all made the trip more enjoyable.

Went for a drive and a hike up North York Moors way yesterday, stayed relatively dry in the morning, all going well until I hit pheasant on the way home. Poor bird didn't stand a chance and now I need a new bumper grill.
Happened to me, just after I got the car, it took out the headlight washer assembly which took weeks for the parts to arrive (managed to get 'warranty' to cover it!)

It was on a 'spirited' drive and you can just see some Yaris' disappearing in the distance

Drove to the vets and home via Starbucks. Armed with my 'Free Drink' voucher I decided on an extra hot, large Spiced Pumpkin Latte as I've never had one before. Euchh! Super sweet and sickly, with a hit of cinnamon and spices. Thank goodness I took it home. Less than an hour later and all I shall say is that my body has had a darned good clear out. 🏃‍♂️💨 Oh my, I'll not be having one of those again!

Car had the full cavity wax and under seal treatment this week ready for the winter road mess. A bit worrying that they found a couple of spots underneath where rust had started to form already (probably from stone chips hitting the underbody paint) which they cleaned off and sealed. The car first went OTR in Feb’24 but not used much until these last 6 weeks…

Where did you go to get this done?
