I was lucky here, my sound was diabled prior to initial collection and I'd anounced before we got home adn stopped for lunch that I will need an exhaust.

After much umming and ahhing I ordered the Apex'i and commented I'd gone for the sensible quieter one, she said "if you are spending money on noise get the louder one", so I cancelled and ordered the HKS instead.

@Swizzle was that your OEM filter? - it looks like the Mann one with teh built in activated carbon. Mine was a rubbish paper affair, I upgraded to one like yours.
Factory standard as far as i know, just filthy from 15000 miles of city driving

Here is a list of the material I used;

Sound Insulation Wool Felt - 42oz | Fabric UK
Insulation under the back seats (can also be used as a large mat in the boot, I have one cut out in the shed, if I go on a long journey and I want less exhaust I can pop this under the boot mat, but I haven’t tried it to yet to see if it actually works)

Silent Coat Extra 4mm - 12 Sheet Pack – Sound Deadening Shop
CLD (Constraint Layer Damping) sheet applied to the chassis

Silent Coat Isolator 10mm Large Sheet – Sound Deadening Shop
Applied over the CLD sheet

Silent Coat Absorber 35mm - 2 Sheet Pack – Sound Deadening Shop
1 sheet per rear quarter trim card/panel/thing

amazon.co.uk/Stainless-Steel-Wallpaper-Roller-Painting/dp/B091TQKSP9

Might be worth getting some Isopropyl alcohol to spritz on the panels to remove any residue before applying the CLD, would recommend keeping the doors open though. 50/50 mix with water should do it.

No nasty resonance from the CTEC setup, you always know it’s there, but it doesn’t dominate the driving experience, I’m a fussy b*stard, this is the goldilocks exhaust for me (appreciate everyone has different tastes though!) more detailed info and review in this thread.

Thats super useful thanks Matt it will make a big difference Im sure to the 86. I have started looking into sound insulation as Im finishing restoring a Land Rover Series 3 hard top and its like driving a giant metal drum so Im hoping to be able to drive it without ear defenders!! :)
Im chatting to the CTEC guys on DM at the moment and are very helpful so am looking forward to hearing a few more clips, I saw someone was selling a CTEC on here as he had a new 250 mile commute and it was too much but to be honest the road noise would be more of an issue for me on that kind of distance.

Yup. Was thinking I’d make it to October when the clocks went back, but that might be wishful thinking 🤨
Forget what I said. The 17’s ain’t gonna fit over the front brakes. Oops!

Anyone want a newly refurbed set of GT86 wheels with cross climates? 🤦‍♂️

First battle scar today!

Coming down a country lane and had to get right over into a passing place as some nob had decided to come the other way in a 20 ton lorry. Unfortunately, I didn't see that the tarmac gave way abruptly and as the wheel dropped in the edge of the bumper must have hit the ground. Not fast, but I've shaved a little off the plastic fin thing and there's a bit of a scuff on the paint.

Boo. Still at least it's very low down. I'll have to have the bumper off in a few days to fit the Infinity intake, so I'll just have to get some Chipex in there. Annoying, but could have been worse.

Drove 1100km across Europe in two stints today, car is honestly quite sublime for long distance/time journeys.

Of course, I indulged a little and sent it full chat on the unrestricted sections in Germany, didn't quite get the chance to reach the limiter but had fun. Just passing the one year anniversary of ownership and gosh darn has it been a good one.

Just had mine serviced at Oxford Toyota , all good apart from a challenge trying to speak to anyone on the phone at their central call handling office waited nearly 30mins on hold . Once at the dealership it was all professional though, have to say though none of the new cars in the showroom interested me , really appreciate my GR86 now.

Tried to have mine serviced today - been booked for a couple of months. Even called two days ago to make sure they had an oil filter, felt a little patronising asking if a main dealer had an oil filter for one of it's cars, but was re-assured that yes they did.

Having taken the morning off and driven a not inconsiderable distance - dropped car off, just over half an hour later with the car not turning a wheel - it was cancelled, they didn't have an oil filter and Toyota can't tell them when they'll be in stock.

Told in no uncertain terms that they couldn't use a Subaru part, so now just waiting...

Also told that they couldn't use 5w30 oil as it isn't recommended and might due irreparable damage.

I thought Mercedes were bad - supercillious yet slap dash. No hint of supercilliousness from Toyota

Quite annoyed - if the car weren't so good (and the 10yr warranty) I'd never darken their handtowels again

That really is terrible that you can specifically check that they have an oil filter, they confirm that they do...and then they don't. It smacks of whoever taking the phone call just thinking you're being stupid for even asking the question....of course we have a filter, why wouldn't we?! So they just tell you they've checked to get you off the phone. Then they look a bit silly when they don't have it in stock. It's just outright lying to a customer.

Didn't a lot of people have this exact same experience for their services last year as well?
