Started the ball rolling on my Toyota alarm issue,

Does anyone know of a reliable way to look up the build sheet for my car?

Most Vin decoders that I have come across don't recognise my vin

That's perfect! Thank you so much

The replies I have received were the standard, we don't have any alarms, we won't warranty or install third party alarms, please speak to the Motor Ombudsman.
They also used the excuse that they couldn't help because I didn't purchase the car through the Toyota network

Toyota got back to me from my email in late December. Offer to reimburse up to £500 if I show them evidence of having an alarm fitted. I’m not interested in a third party alarm for a number of reasons, and I said as much. They won’t budge, so I will be raising a dispute with the ombudsman.

I think finance buyer can still raise a dispute with the motoring ombudsmand, so consider doing that instead or as well. I've just lodged my complaint with the motoring ombudsman as I didn't take Toyota finance, and I expect that form was more suitable for this type of case as it asks the the VIN, plate number, mileage, etc.

As a side note, it took me about 20 minutes, so certainly not a big task.

It would be helpful to know how many of those on here who received a £500 payout did so without having to provide receipts in order to have it released to them.

I’ve been watching with interest up to this point but I may well start the ball rolling so any context from others experiences would be good ammunition to have. 👍🏻

Has anyone had an alarm installed? If so which did you go for. Anyone recommend someone in Suffolk or Norfolk who can do the work. Cheers.

You could not make this up - after offering to give me the money before the New Year, then asking for bank details - they've now came back with the standard - opps, a mistake on our part - get one fitted and give me a receipt. If you're not happy, go to the motoring ombubsman, as no alarm is suitable from Toyota. I said thanks, will think about options and what about the alarms that are installed in other world markets (USA for example) - comical. And if they are reading this - eat it.

Absolute shithouses! That’s quite unbelievable they’ve reneged on their earlier response.

I’ve received the standard response others have above - was going to respond, but I think I’m going to just raise an ombudsman case now and not waste my time further.

As it stands, I will never buy another Toyota, anyway! They’re doing a good job in turning advocate customers into detractors.

I suggest everyone who feels aggrieved raise a dispute with the motor ombudsman as soon as they get the standard response from Toyota. Precedent has been set with the cases that they have adjudicated, and even if every single one of us is unsuccessful it will send a message to Toyota that their handling of this is unacceptable. I believe it also costs them when disputes are raised against them, so the more they get the higher chance they change their stance.

That email and point was totally ignored. I will leave it to next week, I am not missing that bz4x I didn't order (VW iD.5 GTX instead) and I am happy the Landcruiser is but a memory...

This bad handling (likely a local decision) will also put TUK in a bad light at Corporate HQ - the Japanese hate adverse PR so they may put pressure on TUK to resolve quicker, assuming these liabilities have to be reported upwards.

A payout based on a receipt is not a goodwill payment but a reimbursement, and why would anyone be expected to accept only a partial reimbursement?

Seems to me the best way forward is to insist that TUK arrange to have the alarm fitted at their own expense using the same spec alarm that is being delivered in other markets, thereby eliminating the risk of voiding the warranty. If TUK don’t want to do that recall then let’s talk about compensation for failing to deliver a vehicle to the specification to which it was sold.
