Got round to trying the car without the fake engine sound.
Most videos are for LHD cars and don't look like our UK cars, from reading this forum managed to figure it out. It's on the left hand passenger side, remove the side panel and you will see a silver box, there aren't any markings like the US folks to say it is a sound generator but it's the right one ( I hope it is anyway!)
Unlike the US how-to, to make it easier you will need to remove the glove box and push from the inside as the latch to unplug the connector is pointing towards the driver side.
Here's a pic of what it should look like.

Personally I like it without the fake noise, it sounds more metallic to me now, rather then the boomy noise at high revs. It's loud enough for me without the fake noise so will run it as it is. I was worried it would be difficult to put back in, but nice easy to replug if you prefer.
Cheers.

Thanks for the good pics. I did mine today and the above made it really straightforward. I'm keeping it unplugged after a quick drive.

Good photo's thank you. For those that have a fear of physical DIY, it can also be disabled via the Techstream Software (on a laptop) if you know somebody that has it installed.

Done it, thanks. Fake noise is horrible, it made engine sound stained. Never reconnecting it.

Great to see more people unplugging it. Whenever I see / hear an on board with the fake sound enabled it makes me want to grab the occupants and shake them 😆

@GRistopher Agree. Screechy terrible noise. Get mild exhaust like HKS and unplug fake noise and never look back.

I had mine switched off by service centre. It has transformed driving experience ten fold. Solved jerky shifts from 1st to 2nd, now I can hear actual engine note, which makes huge difference in driving car smoothly at lower speeds. I still have original exhaust which I don’t mind having for a while longer.

The light clutch pedal spring mod is also a nice job:

Does anyone know if I leave this unplugged, will it throw up any error codes when it goes in for Toyota service, or is it safer to plug back in when service is next due?

Didn't plug mine back in, nothing was said, and I won't be plugging in again for my service next month, it's a two minute job to plug it in if your worried

I imagine since it's not critical and will go to the body control module it won't throw up an error code.
