Hello all,

I've been looking at a TRD style front splitter and ducktail spoiler for my CB.
Do you think I'd get away with the gloss black finish they come in or is painting an absolute must?

Bonus points for pics

I have the official TRD ducktail and it’s black. The Tureno has a black spoiler on it and doesn’t look out of place.
If it’s not the official painted TRD version and just black because it’s the material is black then you may find the material/ coating is not UV stable and could go south very quickly.
Just check before fitting as getting it off will be a total pain.

I’m in the same situation and think sometimes a black spoiler on white can look like an afterthought, but with the black mirror covers and black plastic around the exhausts, on the gr86 a black ducktail on white looks part of it, so I’ll be going for black too.

Look at it like it’s a bit stormtrooper!! 😂

I would probably add the aero stabalising cover to the list. Should have been there from factory, it completes it.

I still can’t get my head around how much that is. I could make one at home it’s that basic. 😂

Oh no maybe I need to get the TRD one - @GRMatt74 - where did you get yours, did it come in black or did you request it to be painted? From toyota main dealer? Cheers.

I got mine from the dealer. You can get from Fensport though.
You can only get in white, black and red from what I’m aware.
Any other colour you need to get it painted.

Order through TUK and all the colours cab be supplied, ready to fit.

You might pay more, but add £150 to the Fensport for paint (outside there colour range) and it makes sense to go TUK.

Thanks, I may self install in this case if Toyota both drill and tape, as I would prefer only to sticky tape in case I mess it up or want to change spoilers in the future.
It looks like you also had to take out a portion of the rear boot to make it easier to line up - didn't realise that part was removeable.

Cheers - looks great with the contrasting black spolier. (y)

Yeah it’s all removable. If just sticking it then you don’t need to remove it.
Just a word of warning though, bolting it is done because the 3M VHB tape loses half of its bonding capability when heated over 25 degrees. That added with air resistance can come disbonded at speed. I didn’t want the potential insurance claim if it flew off into the person behinds windscreen potentially killing them.
I work in a world of process and procedure and Toyota wouldn’t have asked for it to be bolted for no reason. They would have load tested it.
My stance has been argued on here but I don’t really care what others do just because they “think” it will be ok to just tape.
Just bear the implications in mind when deciding that.

👍 Wise words.

In case you happen to make a mess drilling or want to go back to the OEM look in the future, that panel that you drill in to can be ordered and easily replaced. It's a bit expensive though if you buy through a UK dealer (around £700 last time I looked).

Not sure I would want to. Personally I think the car looks far better and finished with the ducktail.

As likely you know the bolt carriers on the spoiler are fixed via 3M tape. So bolting the spoiler in achieves nothing due to the 3M tape being the only thing that holds the carriers.
