Hi all,

I'm currently choosing between the following tyres for both daily and track in 225/40/18 on the stock BBS wheels:
  • Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2
  • Bridgestone RE-71RS
  • Yokohama AD08R
Where I'm located, the AD08Rs and the Cup 2s are about the same price, while the RE-71RS is 3/4 of the price.

I found this website as a good reference point:
Specifically this handy chart:

Winter tyres are fortunately not needed here and wet weather isn't too much of a concern.

Main reason for me to upgrade from the Michelin PS4S is that I found that they overheated quite quickly and lost too much performance - so I suppose I'd want a tyre with better heat tolerance and which isn't too loud for road duties.

Can anyone recommend any of the above tyres? Are there any other tyres I should be considering?

I have only driven the Cup2 on a Porsche (GT2RS) and they did not like even a damp road so I would give them a miss as a daily tyre. Know not much about the RE71 but do know of someone who fitted these to a Silvia and couldn't wait to get rid of them. No grip and overheated quickly.

I did run the R888R as a track dedicated tyre that could also drive to events and it was ok though again had very little grip on a wet road. I was at the time running the AD08R as a daily tyre and wet track day tyre and now these are my track tyres as the Toyos are dead.

The AD08R is a good all rounder for a track oriented tyre. Very good grip in the wet. They do get noisy at half life which is why I changed them. The AD08R were a bit faster than the R888R though this was a year later and the surface changed and track temps were different who really knows. They (AD08R) are also much better on loose gravel. Both feel good on track and work at the same pressures.

There is the AD09R which is supposed to be a better tyre (I was close to getting those but opted for V107s as the daily tyre). We run AR-1s on the Fiesta but they are still too green to comment on. People here have given good reports on the F1s though there are a few versions.

I have another season left in the AD08R since life has got in the way this sprint season and was thinking of the 09R to replace them subject to how the AR-1 are on the Fiesta.

I have not had any issues with Cup2 on the road with GR Yaris, though they're in stock size so not very wide. But I like them also on damp road.
But of course their thread depth is less so not proper rain tyre as such.

btw Cup2 here was one of the cheapest track tire option. Maybe go for 235/40/18 Cup2 next time. or then just upgrade suspension to get rid of lack of front tire grip..

A few of the guys I compete with in sprints who also daily their cars run Yokohama 052's. The general feedback is they are second to none in terms of grip in both the wet and dry, but they also wear very quickly and cost more than most of the other tyres.

One of the guys with a Clio runs 052s and they seem to be very fussy about camber though that might just be the French application of geometry. Anyway he chewed the fronts out pretty badly in one sprint. $500 a corner here at the moment.

any update on CR-S? It might be the go to tyre, or at least an interesting alternative for street/track use.
Note that there is no 225/40/18 available, so 235/40/18 seems to be the smallest size?
cup2 is light, wonder what will its weight be..

I do like its profile design, resembles a bit of those rally slicks.

Dont know if it was your intention. But the last link is for the Ar1 not for the CR-S.

unfortunately I know nothing about EU tire regulations, but the Nankang CR-S that I recently purchased in 225/40R18 does have (e4) marking on them...
Wonder if that means its road legal?
