So I’m due new brakes and looking at the options. Pads are shot, but apparently the discs still have some life left in them. I'll measure them (technician "forgot" to write down the thickness ) and see, but if they've only got a few mm left I will just do them all in one go.

What are the options for discs then?

TypeCostNotes
OEM££Easy to get hold of
Girodisc£££2-piece floating, lighter
EBC£/££2-piece floating, lighter
Endless££££2-piece, lighter
Godspeed£2-piece, lighter

An added complication is that availability across the EU varies somewhat, so this will probably dictate choice as much as price etc. It seems harder to get hold of Yaris stuff than it should be.

Any more options worth looking at?

Any good EU-based suppliers worth checking out?

@EBC Brakes The site you list as your 'UK/EU online shop' says it will charge UK VAT on EU orders? That sounds wrong. Can you confirm?

I think most adtermarket disks are worn when they are down 1mm per side. The OEM are thick and iirc (needs to be fact checked) can take 1,5mm or 3mm total* = 50% more life. They are bit heavy and not as good cooling but just fine for road use then. And they get noticably lighter with use (congrats if you can notice that though ;) )

I would just get the cheapest if not running them seriously hard on track...

There is DBA also.

*28mm to 25mm?

Yeah, that’s what I’m leaning towards. All the aftermarket ones seem pretty well regarded, and all save weight over OEM.

While I would love a set of @Phil1291 carbon ceramic brakes, I’ll probably go with whatever I can get my hands on in terms of discs.

Another advantage of going aftermarket of course is the fact that unlike the OE discs, the aftermarket ones come with detachable bells which makes is less expensive when replacing.

I see my wavering neural network didn't fail me this time. That's 50% more life than the 26mm for most (all?) aftermarkets. Measure it @Duke, how many sets of pads have you worn out?

Maybe better confirm from the source but just bought a set of pads directly from UK and it was ex VAT, good service overall.
If I went to aftermarket disc would take ones that sell also only friction part without bell so cheaper to replace next time, with good availability of replacement parts.
Mine OEM's were 26.5-26.7mm so they last quite good even though have visited track many times. Maybe need to replace discs after next summer.

if you do go down the bell and disc route it's worth actually checking the replacement cost of aftermarket rotors as some can be quite steep just for the rotors only not forgetting you're committed to that one brand now

Yes, cognisant of that. Prime ‘we’ve got you over a barrel now’ territory.

Also of buying a smaller brand that either disappears or stops doing that fitment. Maybe better to stick to the likes of AP, Endless, EBC etc. for that reason.

Forgot to update this to say I plumped for the EBC floating disc and RP-1 kit in the end (P2DK058RP1). Good pads were going to be around a third of the cost on their own so I thought there was little point in not getting the discs as well. Should save a kilo or so per corner over OEM :D

It turns out there was no VAT on the checkout and although I'll likely get hammered in import duty and charges when it lands here, the 10% forum discount thanks to @EBC Brakes takes the sting out of that :)

Will fit them over the Christmas break and report back.

Finally arrived after some festive period shipping shenanigans. No customs/fee payment demanded on delivery, and no invoice received from FedEx yet either. Maybe I'll get away without any further charges? Would be nice...

Seems accepted wisdom is that the standard discs are 10-10.5 kg each (various, unreferenced sources stating as much), so these look like being 0-5-1 kg lighter than OEM*.

Not bad, but heavier than the (much more expensive) floating kits from Alcon, Endless etc.

Has anyone here actually weighed a new, OEM disc?

Now I just need to plan some time to actually fit the buggers!

*according to my super accurate, highly-calibrated bathroom scales, anyway

Are you changing rear pads and discs or just fronts?

Almost new disks are about 9,8kg, so I guess just under 10kg for new OEM ones.
