Far too sensible a post that
Far too many shirkers these days who think that the world owes them a living…

I’ve never needed a handout in my life which is either down to luck (if you believe in it) or perhaps hard work and good choices

I think I deserve everything that has come my way in life with one exception… The wife’s Lymphoma which was a cruel blow as we started to look forward to a life of leisure .. no amount of cheap sports cars, possessions or houses will make up for that so you’re right, life is too short to moan about the what ifs.. Though venting my spleen occasionally does relieve the stress for a time

I may have posted this on the wrong thread earlier, but I just had a call from my dealer offering a test drive of the GR86 due to some more availability. Seems they are now ringing round all the GR Yaris customers. I already ignored an invite to purchase some months ago. I’ve asked for details on the offer available, anyway.
I’m told it’s from £30,149…..has that gone down? Perhaps back to where it started before the price increase, but taking into account the higher first year VED? 8.4% APR which seems standard, now.

So an update, I was able to cancel my order with TOL. Handover was scheduled in 5 days. £30,900 Final Price.
I was able to not only get save lots of money, the Ducktail, Mudflaps, and Parking Sensors as installed accessories all turned out to be cheaper too! Saving even more money!

Happy with Hills so far, they have been very responsive. Car has just been registered, and now the wait for a pickup date 🤞 hope it goes well, and the service keeps up I'm well impressed with dealing with a dealer (never thought I'd say that). 😅

I saved £5,140 by cancelling and buying’ pre-loved, so I’m quite happy… spent it all now mind 🤦‍♂️
That's got a depends how you look at it factor though. Financing, future value, running costs, do you resale - all subjective. As long as they are enjoyed for what they are, that's all that matters.

This’ll sound ridiculous / selfish but I ordered a 3rd one at the weekend that’s arrived at Hills today. My 2nd car (replacement for rejected first car that was damaged) has been sat at the local dealer for 5 weeks as for whatever reason Toyota Online/Finance decided the best course of action re finance was to amend the initial agreement to the new car. Sounded easy enough…. After 5 weeks they were still unable to confirm when it would be completed and how that would affect my agreement. I was fine initially as assumed it would be a quick admin change, couple of days max. I’d have been driving the car for 4 weeks or so now. Wasn‘t going to pass up the opportunity to get a cheaper one after that faff so cancelled with TOL this week. Fingers crossed for a pain free pickup, that’s the only concern with them being 200 miles away but dealings with them so far have been positive.

The whole limited vs. additional availability issue does remind me of the Renault Clio Williams furore almost 30 years ago.

Much malcontent was experienced and vocalised by the lucky few who managed to secure the original, only to see Renault bring out a Williams 2 and if that wasn't bad enough, follow up with a Williams 3.

But, I doubt very much if this impacted on the ownership and driving experience for the owners, perhaps apart from the very subjective and ephemeral concept of perceived "exclusivity".

I'm sure many of us are committed to GR86 ownership for the medium to long term (dirty flippers excluded, as they jolly well should be); so apart from a nagging feeling of being "had over", does it really matter to most of us?

In terms of legacy, I wouldn't be surprised if the GR86 experiences something of the Clio Williams effect over the coming years:

1. Driving. The Williams is often cited as one of - if not the - greatest hot hatch(es) of all time; regularly wowing contemporary road testers who may not have even been born when it came out.

2. Value. Well I'll just leave this here.

Enjoy your wonderful cars!
Please don’t post any more links to cars I have previously owned that are now worth loads 😁. I had one of those first 400…. Occasionally I also look at prices for Evo 6 Makinen editions and have a little cry 😭.

For goodness sake just go and enjoy your car, so what you bought a car you thought was a “limited” supply and turns out its not and anyone can still buy one. Lots of people rushed to buy one because they thought they’d sell out.
So what, it’s a great car none the less and life’s too short for all these petty legal disputes do you think it’ll really solve anything other than make you feel better for 30 seconds
Nothing to do with limited supply and exclusivity, always wanted one from day one and as an interim while waiting bought a new Yaris only to sell it 9 months later when I was lucky enough to buy the GR86. My gripe is with Toyota, their GR86 marketing was a scam and customer service is terrible, even when I had my Yaris serviced the dealer was completely incompetent, I had to tell them how to rectify faults (so called competent technicians don’t seem to have a clue unless the fault code points them where to go). The GR86 is a brilliant car, can’t fault it in any way, even love all the quirks.

The dealer that supplied my GR Yaris just called me to say the orderbook is open again. Not sure if this is news to the 86 crowd or not.

My Yaris is in for it's first MOT tomorrow, have been offered a poke around an a test drive of their demonstrator.

Test drove today after a call in the week to say there are a load more cars available. From what I was told, they are trying to sell as many as they can in the next 4 weeks. It was good fun but not enough to get me out of my Yaris. I was looking at a £10k cost to change (from a 1 year old GRY) if you factor in interest, for a car which is worth less than mine, retail. The deal was miles away from tempting me in the end and I got a harder sell than I was comfortable with.

They should've just let the dealers sell them in the first place, the order book would've been full and no refund. Toyota being disingenuous tut tut.
I don’t know who’s to blame for all of this but the communication regards this car has been a total shambles. The demo car today was a ‘72 plate but had done just 850 miles so not sure where that car has been for the last 12 months or so, but it’s not been on the road much. It’s a shame as the ‘sold out, oh we have some more, sold out again, oh, we have a load more again’ will leave a bitter taste for a lot of owners who ultimately have a bloody great drivers car for the money!

The communication has been beyond shambolic.. The car had (has) some stellar reviews but part of the “allure” (for me anyway) were the limited numbers and therefore the potential that you were buying into a select club…

I’d say that the communication has been extremely misleading and that’s being kind

Had a test drive yesterday while waiting to pick up my Yaris after MOT. Nice car, feels good to drive, engine is certainly more peppy than the original 86 and the rear end is very playful in the cold and wet.

Night and day vs the Yaris. The Yaris feels way more hefty to throw around, like it's glued to the road where the 86 feels much lighter and up on its tiptoes.

Hats off to the sales guy Morgan at Steven Eagell Tunbridge Wells who just told me to drive it where I wanted and how I wanted. I was told all they have left are cancellations, not sure if that was just an attempt at generating FOMO or not.

Finance deals are not very attractive though at 8.9% or so. £7k down, 6000 miles a year over 3 years the monthlies come out at £365 vs the same down on the Yaris, 8000 a year at £320 a month.

I don't see myself chopping the Yaris in or selling my MX5 Turbo to make room for it.

Ha! My test drive was also with Morgan at Tunbridge Wells! I felt the same as you. Liked the car but not the idea of swapping the Yaris for it, or swapping my 0% finance deal for an 8.4% one!
