Evening all.

Picked my 86 up on December 23rd from RRG Macclesfield (the only Toyota dealership I deal with, despite being from Hereford). Handover smooth as ever. Part exchanged my 3.0 GR Supra on the same day, knowing that there was no reason to have both (though now considering adding a GR Yaris or similar to the garage).

Despite the car sitting for a week as I enjoyed Christmas with my family, now 6 weeks on I'm around 2500 miles into ownership so far, and loving every moment.

As for a timeline of events:

Handover Day (and bonus pic of @Lauren, who graciously joined me for my handover)

As it turned out, @Will300 was also receiving his car at the same time as myself, and got a lift there with his brother. So having never seen a GR86 in the wild, my handover day was blessed with 3!

In the 2500 miles so far, I've done the following:

  1. Front plate mount modified to fit smaller plate
  2. T10 LED bulbs replaced all interior and puddle lighting
  3. T15 LED bulbs replaced reverse lights
  4. Shift Solutions Co. stainless steel shift knob fitted
  5. Cusco throttle pedal fitted
  6. TRD rear spoiler fitted
  7. Car featured in Carwow drag race video (soon to be released)
  8. Run in service completed
  9. Remark Axle Back exhaust fitted
  10. Machine polish and GTechniq Crystal Serum ceramic coating applied
The rear end, where the most obvious changes have taken place:

And the glorious shine of freshly applied ceramic coating:

Still to come:
  1. KW coilovers to be fitted
  2. Wheels to be decided
  3. Rear seat delete (alcantara false floor) to be fitted
  4. Aimgain Sport front lip and side skirts to be fitted
Long term, supercharger is on the agenda should I decide to go that route. Will also attempt to pick up the Brembo brakes from the GT86 Performance Pack. Aside from that, who knows. One thing to guarantee, is the car will see a lot of miles, a lot of events, and hopefully I'll get to meet a lot of you along the process :)

Thanks
Ross

Nice!

What was the carwow drag race against?🤔
There were two races.

Firstly a generational race (I'm sure you can guess what against, GR86 and 2 other cars).

Secondly a race against a slightly different league of Toyota from the late 90s/early 00s. Think Fast and Furious, with turbos.

I would just tell you, but I'm not entirely sure I'm allowed to!

Oooh, sounds interesting.

When is it due for release?

Does Mat Watson owe you a new clutch🤣

The BMW M5 race that's their most recent video was filmed on the same day as ours, so I'd think soon.

And no, tbf to him he was very understanding of my opposition to him killing the clutch. Drove it quite gently. No clutch smell, no brake smell, no burnouts/drifting. He took surprisingly good care of it. He also told me he wants to swap his GR Yaris for one haha, so maybe he cares for the car a bit better if he likes it.

Great stuff, excited to follow along. I was just recently thinking how to modify the front plate mount, could you describe the process? I was imagining 2 cuts to then remove material before readhering

I attempted to re-adhere the outer portions of the plate mount, but after cutting them down with a hot blade, I realised that there's a slight taper so they don't fit back on.

Instead, I just cut the plate mount slightly narrower than the plate and left it like that. You can't really tell it's been done when its fitted.

Hi interested to hear what you think about the Remark exhaust, and how it sounds.
i have just ordered a Cobra Cat back exhaust (non resonated), but not being fitted until 28th March.

Hi Nigel.

If you head over to the Exhausts section on this forum, I’ve posted a couple of videos and my thoughts on the exhaust. I’m only on my phone at the moment, or I’d post them again, but to save my fingers, pop over and see what you think 🙂

Hi, yes, that dose sound good👍
I’m a little concerned that a non resonated one may be a tad loud, but as it’s going to be used as a second car, hopefully be ok. I’ve had de-catted TVR’s in the past, so should be ok. After all, nothing in the front half the exhaust will be changed, so all stock there.
If push comes to shove, I can always replace the non resonated section with a resonated one, so options are there.
Carn’t wait now to get it fitted.

I've gone for it as bang for buck it seems like the most cost effective option for some noise as currently there's very little. If these are more efficient than last gen then there won't be much to gain from a full system anyway.

I fear the full system might be a touch too loud tbh. This drones a little bit, but not terrible. There’s a decently sized resonator in the mid section. Interested to hear it though.

Agreed. The exhaust is a much better design on the Gen 2 than Gen 1. Bigger pipework, no random compressions. Even the manifold is 1/4” larger runners afaik. I think gains will still be there, but whereas a manifold and exhaust was worth maybe 20hp with a tune on Gen 1, I think it’ll be less than 10hp difference on Gen 2.

Consider the cost of a manifold and full exhaust system, it’s a lot for 10hp. A good percentage of the way towards a supercharger/turbo.

Do they do an option of a Remark with at least a small muffler?
I quite liked the sound of it from your clips in the exhaust thread - but that cold start was far too obnoxious for me, and any sort of drone would wind me up. I've gone for the HKS option, but I agree that it's a lot of money for a cat back; but as everyone's noticed, there's not a lot of choice, especially if you're like me and want just a bit more noise.

I'm the same I like the sound, I just want it a touch quieter.
Some of the GT86 options might fit as they have the fitting on the correct side, but would have to be similar size diameter pipe. Not all GT exhaust are.

No, Remark only do a 'muffler' delete on their axleback. JDL do an axleback with 2 6" resonators which is the option I am considering (or might go custom made from H&S).
