They already sell a cup car variant to the general public in Japan with a very nicely fitted roll cage in it so I wouldn’t be overly surprised if this happens. Japanese customers do seem to be a lot more enthusiastic about more focused sub variants or option specs of their performance cars than we do in the U.K.

That’s said if Toyota UK actually gave us any choice over and above paint colour and transmission I’d have ticked a few boxes from the Japanese option list myself.

I’d definitely have been tempted by the anniversary edition.. I always loved the MX5 specials and regret not buying the gorgeous red metallic one when that came out…
