I'll be taking delivery in September, but I'm undecided if I should get parking sensors fitted. What are your experiences and if you've had them installed, what did it cost?

Recommended, just the other day in the rain, I was reversing and with the rain droplets the camera was all blurred. The sensors helped parking.
Not essential if you want the sleek look, but worth it practically imo.

Think a forum member asked and there are no fronts available unless you go aftermarket.

There seems to be someone here (tomm2.m) who got front sensors fitted by their dealer (although looks like there were some issues re the paint)

Also looks like they are flush fit as well rather than the type that sit proud. I don't think I've seen this on any other manual cars (but happy to be corrected of course!)
I've not gone for them on mine but these do look quite good

Interesting, I must have missed the front sensors fitment, wonder how they work, I presume you would need to put it into reverse first before the fronts start scanning, unless they added a button inside to turn the sensors on and off.
They are always activated in my current car.

I don't know I don't have them and they weren't an available option.

My car is from the second batch, collected 11th September. I requested parking sensors during the on-line ordering process, and was told that they are a dealer-fit option.I told my dealer this and they assumed I'd have nothing to pay. When they looked more into it when the car arrived, however, they were informed that they needed to charge. It wasn't at all clear to them how to get the parts, and after looking into that my salesman asked me if I really wanted the sensors as they'd cost over £800 (incl £100 for the special-order paint!), which, he acknowledged was way more than the aftermarket charge.
So I left it, but I am now really missing the sensors on my GT86, that have saved me on numerous occasions (you really can't have your eyes everywhere in a busy supermarket car park). Does anybody have experience of having aftermarket sensors fitted? Any recommendations? It's a black car - do they really need paint, given all the black plastic already on show at the back?

I'm baffled that in this day and age people are still having to have multiple holes drilled into their bumper to fit a few unsightly sensors, this tech has been around for 20 years, things have moved on so much. Surely there is a product out there which requires just one sensor which isn't so intrusive.

Yes, you might expect... My boat depth sounder operates from inside hull through maybe 10mm of GRP.
But I've noted that flush sensors cost a lot more to fit (£360 more in one case) than the ones that pop in from the outside and protrude a little, because the flush ones require bumper removal. This was mentioned by my Toyota dealer when explaining the high cost they quoted. I guess that internally
While I think 'flush and painted' does look nicer, does it matter that much? They could maybe even mount them on the grey, bare plastic part of the bumper anyway.
Also, I get nervous when people start removing parts of the bodywork - they don't always go back on as well as they were fitted originally.

I collected my black gr86 in June, and the dealer fitted rear sensors for free as per first batches ... really don't notice them I have to say, and I'd recommend it. In rain, dirty weather coming up, sensors plus the camera makes things easy when parking. Btw - not a problem on the front, as you can easily judge that.
