GR86 Notchy 2nd gear fix

Notchy Gear Knob you say? Well ...

[Takes sip of Brandy and sits back in armchair]

It must have been 1985, Wiggie and I had to drive the ol' Bedford Army truck from Portsmouth to Birmingham, incredibly tough gear change ... mumble mumble mumble mumble ...

Waaaahhh!!!! Hitchhiker! Straight out of the bushes! Must have been 6ft two, strikingly plump cleavage, big hands for a gal! ... mumble mumble mumble mumble

Woke up in the Infirmary. Rather Dizzy to say the least... mumble mumble mumble mumble

Doctor exclaimed "Bloody Hell, the tip's been pulled clean 'orf!". Never did get to Birmingham ... I'm afraid to say, that I was very, very drunk at the time.

[For those that have no idea what I'm alluding to, here's some Rowley Birkin QC (from the Fast Show) telling an equally tall tale.]

Pampered bloody millennials innit *waves walking stick in air*

Feeling mildly reminiscent reference second gears I left work one Friday afternoon in my C registered Lancia Delta 1300 which was equipped with Twin Choke Webers ( I see they have turned to bbq's in recent years since all this new fangled injection stuff )
To cut a long story short I gave it both chokes wide open leaving work turning sharp right which I had practised on many occasions which put all the available horses ( of which there weren't to many ) through the drivers wheel and it was mighty impressive to the pedestrians leaving work who hadn't got cars....I rode out the dash rattling spectacle and went for second which again was well practised knowing that I could get a chirp from the tortured Uniroyals keeping the revs near the top as I slammed it into second.
My well practised hand went to perform the move from first to second only for it to flail about mildly panicked searching for the gear stick, I coasted through the corner until I could look down safely to see the tip of my knob cradled in the gator with my shaft having exited the interior of the vehicle!!

I picked up the tip of my knob which allowed the shaft to re enter the interior of the mighty Delta and managed to nurse it home with a very few floppy gear changes.

Upon inspection at home there was a tiny L bracket at the bottom of my shaft which was all that held it in place and unfortunately it had departed under the duress of the the Twin Chokes at full bore!!

Superb tale well told and excellent use of innuendo.

Why oh why did I wait until the point of selling the GR to make this <5 minute adjustment... 2nd gear was bugging me but I put it down to my driving...

I've just done the adjustment with a 2mm lolly stick and the gear change is transformed... Smooth as silk
