I went up to Skye a couple of weeks ago and it was 22 deg whilst it was flooding in the midlands ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผ The roads are fantastic up there and well worth a visit. Planning on a few more next year. I took a couple of rubbish pictures too ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿคฃ

Just the post I am looking at.
Just booked the dog in for a week so I can do the NC500 1st week of September next year.
Have watched lots of biker videos and am now ready to start a list of possible hotels around the circuit - anti-clockwise.

How about some of you who have done this drive give your suggestions of good hotels / B&B where the car is parked safely off street.
Not looking at cheapest.
Also, which places would be lovely to get there by say lunch so I have time to look around and it not just being just a driving - evening meal then bed holiday.
Most of the videos suggets the first night before Inverness (I will travel from Yorkshire Sunday morning) there is a Travel lodge - I think which they say is a good first stop before setting off on the route on day 2.. Then, I would need 5 stopovers in a hotel in a nice area - posibly one not far before the start of Applecross so an early start on that section is possible.
I always think recommendations are better than pot luck.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
does this site have an area specially for driving holidays - with sub sections for different drives where people can share ideas and build lists and info?

Happy to share when I'm back ๐Ÿ‘

It has been epic. We are on Day 5 of 9 so far.....

Thanks for the tips and photos. Gives me inspiration to do this next year

I did a loop around the Scotland coast in the early 90s before it was known as the NC500.

It was in the days before the internet so we just drove around trying to find a b&b every night.

We drove a 1.3 litre Golf with 55bhp and a 4 speed manual gearbox. 230bhp should be a bit more fun.

Best time of the year to do it, less traffic/ caravans.

Would love to do it in a GR86. I reckon it would be a fun but totally different drive to the GR Yaris (certainly grip wise).

This trip has been amazing. The roads have been quiet. The weather has mostly been incredible. The GR86 has been a riot! I've loved every minute ๐Ÿ’ฏ

West is best with the NC500, especially if you divert across the mainland in many of the very quiet single track roads. We like to base ourselves in Ullapool for a few days, maybe Applecross overnight (for the seafood at the Inn alone) and Plockton en-route, or an overnight. And Skye cannot be missed. Lucky when you are only a few hours away though ๐Ÿ˜
