2mm Noico. And a roller to flatten it down properly. Where the roller couldn't get to then the back of the plastic trim pry tool did the job.
You'd didn't do any noise measurements did you?Well after driving to work it's definitely quieter in the back. There's less boom type resonance compared to before. It's noticeable even at low speeds but more obvious at motorway speeds.
The only downside is I can hear that I haven't done the doors yet!
Nope - just ears. You'd didn't do any noise measurements did you?
Appreciate your efforts here @Dal3D - super helpfulNope - just ears.
Just to add that it's never going to be quite like some luxury car and that's not what I was aiming for.
There's still the road noise from either the tyres or the shape of the arches (now focused on the front) and various other noises that won't be muted.
I am just about lowering the booming / echoing hum that can be tiresome on a long trip.
Any downsides to doing this Darren?Put some sound deadening in the doors today after doing the rear a while back.
Went out tonight and the OH noticed how much quieter it was so must be worthwhile.
Was quite easy getting the door cards off and applying. Fiddly though and I didn't go overboard with trying to cover every square millimetre.

Was a bugger to flatten out but it was that warm I could flatten it down with my fingers and a plastic pry tool where the roller couldn't get to;

Giving a "knock" on the door in various places after certainly had a dead sound rather than a resonating one so must be doing something.
Makes sense - thanksIt's still as "raw" as ever so I don't feel as though I've lost any of the '86ness after.
It's taken more of the resonances out of the car - the booming and hum rather than making it whisper quiet. At least the OH and I can have a conversation without raising voices like before.
A downside may be it's added a bit of weight but I'm not bothered as I don't drive it at ten tenths constantly.
Was this on the stock pad, tyres and fluid or did you change any?Had the 86 in track at Donington Park - nothing too extreme but good to stretch his legs.
The OH also got her first experience of being on track so that was good.
We had fun, came through it unscathed and the 86 was faultless. Lovely.

Sounds like useful, er, personal relationship advice too...I have as much fun as possible as slowly as I can go![]()
Ooft no; just make sure your fluids are at max, your rubber is inflated to the correct pressure, then thrash it until something 'gives' ...Sounds like useful, er, personal relationship advice too...
