So alongside my GR Yaris I also run a Mk2 Eunos Roadster RS as a project car.
I bought it in 2018 and it came standard except for Gaz Gold Pro coilovers, EBC pads and Michelin Pilot Sport 3 tyres.
A few weeks into the first Covid lockdown, I span a rod bearing enjoying the empty roads and that began a journey to turbocharge it.
I rebuilt the bottom end summer 2020 with upgraded bearings, rods, and oil pump and then started buying the rest of the kit to go turbo, deciding to use a GT2560R kit and an ME442 ECU.
In 2022 I had that all fitted at The MX5 Restorers down in Pevensey, as well as having them do extensive bodywork repairs to fend off the tinworm. Both rear quarters needed cutting out and replacing.
The car sat for a while with life getting in the way. Last Autumn I dusted it off and got it running again, with it needing a new set of discs, pads and all four calipers rebuilding. Then over Christmas I fitted an R8 coil per plug kit and set that up on the ECU.
Fast forward to two weeks ago, the car went off to Abbey Motorsport for final setup and mapping on their Dynapack dyno.
They found the original fuel pump lacking, not surprising given the RS makes only 150hp stock and the car’s done 95k. So we upgraded the aged original pump to a Walbro 245 ITP kit.
After fitting the new pump, the car made 220 wheel horsepower and 188 lbft wheel torque at 0.7bar, they estimate this to be 255flywheel hp.
It goes like a stabbed rat
Theres very little lag from the GT2560R which is great.
Next on the agenda are some gauges and an oil cooler to ready it for some track days.
A long road to get here but I’m looking forward to getting some use out of it over the summer.
