I'm sure a lot of us have done this already but as it's my first mod I thought I'd post it up. I changed the interior light bulb for the one below. It's an easy job, just pry the plastic cover off with a mobile phone tool (insert on the windshield side) or small trim tool.
Much brighter, maybe too bright! Also did the boot light at the same time.

Hey Celia, can you confirm if the original bulbs are LED?

I’ve got a bag of 7 LED replacements from AliExpress (see image). I’m assuming that the bigger ones are for the reverse lights and the other 5 are for various interior lights?

Yes, the two larger LEDs are for the reverse lights.

The remaining 5 will go in the boot (1x light), dome lights and the door puddle lights.

You can also change the sun visor vanity lights but they use a different type of bulbs.

Here's the previous thread on it - https://www.gr-zoo.com/threads/replacement-led-bulbs-where-did-you-buy-them-from-what-type.3046/

These are the ones I bought. At a little over £3 I dunno how long they'll last. If they blow I'll buy a 'proper' set ... Now, thanks to @beorg, I've just ordered the GR projecting puddle lights too ;)
I should have updated that thread after receiving the lights (I could have sworn I had...).

The AliExpress projector puddle lights were unfortunately incompatible with the GR86. They are different to those in a GT86, which I think the shop linked in that thread is selling.

This is the type of projector lights that I believe are compatible with the GR86:

Funnily enough I've just ordered some door projectors after someone posted a link on Facebook: https://myledlogo.com/collections/toyota-led-logo

When you select Buy Now, you get to choose which design you want and also which model (GT or GR86). Mine were dispatched yesterday, so hopefully be here within the next couple of weeks. I'll report back if they're any good.

I'd previously ordered some on AliExpress for 10 quid or so, but realised when they arrived that they were for the GT. Luckily they also had one of the capacitors hanging off, so I was able to request a refund due to them arriving damaged.

Arrived today. Not too bad.

Indeed, I must admit I raised an eyebrow when I opened it up and saw the Engrish tag line on the box ("Open special is different"...eh?). But they are quite solidly made, they clipped into position as snugly as the old lights (I'd seen some people review AliExpress ones and say they didn't fit quite right) and the image is nice and crisp.

I did think they were perhaps a little small...but then realised that it was because the door was opened over the pavement :/ They look much bigger on flat ground.

Recent chat in the Confessions thread reminded me that I'd always intended to look up some warmer LED bulbs/lamps for the cabin lights. The ones I got from Amazon were nice and bright, but a bit too harsh and white. Said chat reminded me, and yesterday I ordered some from ClassicCarLEDs.co.uk. Pictures taken with a camera so aren't brilliant but should hopefully be a good comparison.

Before (Amazon 6000K )

After (ClassicCarLed.co.uk 3000K)

They are probably not quite as bright as the whiter ones (although maybe that's due to the colour temp) but I find a warmer colour temperature much better for a cabin interior. I think they are still much brighter than the OEM incandescent bulbs. If I've got them around, maybe I should pop those back in just to confirm, but they probably went in the bin.

Direct comparison between between the two LEDs mid - fitting:

Thanks for the comparison and I agree, that the 3000 kelvin lamps are much more suitable for creating an old skool ambience.

I have 4 of these bulbs spare if anyone wants them. Any order over £10 qualified for free next day delivery, so I picked up 6 rather than just the two I needed. They worked out about £2.74 each that way, so if anyone wants a pair for £6 to cover the cost of a large letter stamp, I'm happy to stick them in the post.

EDIT: someone's already snapped up a pair, still one more pair left.
