GR86 Insurance

I’m definitely departing Howden upon renewal. Just called up to enquire about adding my partner mid term - £37. With a £50 admin fee on top.

Get in the sea, frankly. 🤣🤣🤣

Had to stick with Admiral in the end. £995ish for 2 cars and the house. Looked around for other quotes and it's as if they don't want the business. Everywhere was more. I've also been looking at a 2nd bike to go alongside the Triple and my current company on an online quote, will insure very little so I'm not looking forward to renewal on that either.

Bloody hell, these GR86’s are expensive to insure.

Just been looking around for renewal quotes, and it’s shaping up to be over £500 for a car with limited mileage, garaged, in a good postcode and with just me driving, with a good driving history. By comparison, my more valuable Elise is just a shade over £300 annually, with an agreed value!

Say it's on the drive. If it's in the garage, they'll know you'll be fussier if you claim. It was cheaper for me.

Well, this is a turn up for the books. My renewal with AXA arrived this morning…£275 for the year! That’s the second car in a row there’s been a big drop with them at renewal, the other being my Up! GTI.

Considering the quotes elsewhere, I couldn’t click ‘Renew’ quickly enough!

I’ve just had renewal for my Corolla. It dropped about £80 from last year. Hoping the GR is the same when it comes.

Admiral dropped my renewal by near £200, but will still shop around and see what the damage ceiling is - still approaching £1k for 12k miles per year with business insurance.

Even better, AXA have added the exhaust I’ve just purchased on for no extra fee. The mods they cover are a little limited (my Up! GTI is insured with them, and unfortunately they won’t cover coilovers, which I’d like to fit to “Clubsport” it) but it’s refreshing an insurer being reasonable rather than taking an opportunity to ream you for an admin fee or increased premium.

Went in to bat with Admiral's renewals team. Quietly impressed, most every other insurer was higher or didn't want the business . AA were cheaper but Admiral beat it comparatively. £734 the eventual damages o_O

Madness… The GR’s going in the next couple of weeks and she cost me ~£280 for the year fully comp…. Called for a quote in the Lexus we’re picking up on the 2nd of September and the quote was £530 🤬🤷🏻‍♂️

I have just reinsured three of our vehicles for the price of two last year. Went with Admiral on a multi-car policy after years with LV. Felt like LV didn't want the business anymore. The specialist broker I had used for the Saab 09 9-3 Conv Aero went from £250 to £1200 on the same terms and conditions. The guy didn't even flinch when I called to discuss it. The Admiral policy covers the GR86, a Volvo 08 XC70 and now the Saab. So all in, not bad this year and at least Mrs911sse's vehicular infractions (i.e. driving into inanimate objects like walls) are starting to thankfully near the 5 year mark and can be discounted fairly soon. 😁

My renewal through Admiral has come down 15% .
I emailed Howden yesterday but I’m yet to receive a call back.

I got a very competitive quote of £268 from Swift Cover this week, which includes ‘standard’ mods like a stainless steel exhaust and alloys <£1k. It’ll be interesting to see what Howden’s and others on comparison sites come back with nearer the time…

Be wary of the rumours that nearer the day becomes like Oasis tickets.

Some quotes on the comparison sites are 24 valid. That could just be scare marketing, or have sense of some sort.

Anyone here left it to final days, and taken a hit?
