Just finished up my wireless carplay, i have a south african spec car so we have the smaller head unit with the built in usb on it and not close to the gearshift like the big head unit cars.

I took my head unit apart, drilled a hole through the case to where the back of the usb is and soldered 4 usb wires to the 4 pins and then plugged a wireless CarPlay adapter into that, all hidden Nicely behind the dash

Nice work mate! I’m liking your illuminated usb ports too 👍🏻
In southafrica we just had a blanking plate there, so got that fast charger that just piggy backs of the cigarette lighter port and fits perfectly where the blank cover was

Which phone mount is that and how do you like it? Looking for recommendations. I own the latest iPhone 15 Pro (non-Max).

Can you give me a link to that USB charger please?

Hi, hope you don't mind me contacting you about this post you made about adding an additional USB port, I've been searching for a solution to this problem.

I have a UK car which already comes with a single USB port in that location where you have fitted yours, however I am already using this to connect an android auto box running a digital dash app on the main display. I still need a USB port to charge my phone and don't want to use a plug adapter in the cigarette socket.

The part you provided a link to on Aliexpress is exactly the same size as the hole for the factory USB fitted to UK cars, so my plan is to pull out the original USB connector and hide this behind the dash panel with the android box and then use the part you have identified to fill the hole in the dash.

Sorry for the long winded explanation but if i do that exactly how do you piggyback the Aliexpress USB part to the cigarette socket to get the power? i can see on Aliexpress website the USB sockets wiring comes with a white push fit connector, is there a spare connection on the cigarette socket for this? or do you simply snip the connector off and solder the black and red wires to the cigarette socket for power?

Really appreciate you help if you could shed some light on exactly how you did it.

No problem, the wite it comes with has 2 connectors one plugs into the back of the cigarette lighter unit, and the wire that originally went into the cigarette unit plugs into the other connector, all plug and play no splicing or snipping needed

Hey, that's perfect thanks for the update. I've ordered the part and will give it a go once it arrives I cant believe the UK spec cars will be any different from SA in regard to the cigarette lighter connections.
