Hi folks, I’ve seen that cars in the US have been able to download a new software update to their cars but it looks like it doesn’t make any difference in appearance etc so hopefully just sorting out some of the bugs we collectively have experienced.

I haven’t connected my car to WiFi yet to scan for the update yet but have found the attached PDF with the instructions (found on one of the GR86 groups on FB)

Anyone searched for the update or given it a whizz yet?
Just wondering what others have experienced & if it is worth doing.

That’s a coincidence! I was sat in my car earlier going through the settings and noticed the software update option. Unfortunately when I tried to update I couldn’t connect to my WiFi, my car isn’t parked close enough to the house.
I can’t say I’ve experienced any bugs though, what are others seeing?

Every time I’ve tried before, it has come back with ‘no updates available’. Is this a release suitable for EU/UK or is it just US?

Same. I'm guessing it's a regional thing, as they all got an email. I've had nothing from Toyota, part from emails asking me if I want a CH-R (no).

I think the US guys did report that they found the head unit more responsive, so hopefully something we get eventually. The only regular bug I see is "Bluetooth device disconnected..." every so often when connected to AA (wireless or wired). But, the device obviously isn't disconnected, as music keeps playing and navigation keeps navigation-ing. Seems like the error message maybe comes up if there's a momentary drop out, so perhaps it should be programmed to be suppressed unless the connection fully drops.

I get this sporadically - I can go for weeks without seeing it at all, but then get it every few minutes on a single journey.
I get the feeling it's the generic 'phone' connection that drops out, rather than the AA , hence there's no impact to anything - music doesn't even glitch.
I try to just ignore it, even though it can be irritating.

This happened to mine also but then I changed on the AA app to always on . I also
went into developer mode and turned off usb bugging option. Since then it's not dropped out once.

I've got USB Debugging turned off in my phone settings, but where's the option to set the AA app to always on?

This is on the AA app management accessable through system settings.
Must be being thick, but I cant find that option (I'm using a Pixel 7 Pro) when looking at the AA settings, nor when going through Apps in the system settings. Nearest I can find is battery usage, but it's all set to unrestricted. Any chance you could tell me exactly where you're looking?

In App management you should find Android Auto. I click on "Additional settings in app." Hopefully you will now get some Start Android Auto options which you can set as " Always." I have attached some screenshots as your will probably look different as I use a OnePlus phone.

Cheers!
Mine was set to "If used on the last drive" - although it always seems to start anyway, even if I was previously using the radio.
I've set it to Always now as well, see if it stops the errors completely.

Mine originally was set to that and always started, but did drop out at times. I hope this will stop drop out altogether as it did on mine.

Didn't work. Error appeared again today. Although it did disappear after a few seconds, and I seem to remember it usually staying long enough that it annoys me and I close it myself.

Didn’t work for me either. It’s annoying ‘cause I usually have the display set to off but this damn message still pops up and disturbs my nice dark cabin for a few seconds.

Has anyone asked Toyota or a dealer about updates?

Digging into the update system, it looks broken. The GR86 head unit makes update checks over Wi-Fi to a fixed URL ending in ...redbend.com. This is a company that specialises in OTA update distribution. Which makes sense. However, they appear to no longer be online. So, when your car says "No update available", that's because the request generates a 404 error. There is simply no reply as the server is offline. The only obvious way to fix this would be a software update via USB.
