I made a sound clip a while ago also if you want a second opinion
I love the exhaust, it made me fall in love with the car as I found the car a bit boring with the stock exhaust with or without the sound generator.

It was your video that made me go for the AWE in the first place

It’s a shame the car wasn’t run in at the time of filming as it doesn’t really give much to go on. I’m also not convinced the microphone being used was up to the task.

Frustrating as it’s the model I’ve been considering and the videos I’ve seen so far have all been US market cars which haven’t had the OPF related neutering.

It was just a GoPro I think, also the tailpipe facing one didn't record on the post fitting videos. You can defintely hear the difference on decent speakers, - listening on my phone it doesn't sound that different, listening on my PC Bose speakers it does. Lee will be filming again a the end of the month when we all go to Snetterton, so there will be more footage and sounds

I did a few more miles after that (got 4 stone chips ) and its now over 1000 miles, so I can use the rev range more.

Watching that video the L1 looks identical to the L2 apart from the tips. Maybe a tad louder though....slightly larger diameter pipe work?

It is definitely louder as that what HKS say on their website. I think the main difference is the spec L2 has longer silencers, which is why you can see the can from the back wth the shorter exhasut tip. I don't really like tha look of seeing that, but I wish the Spec L1 had the swappable tips, to me the blue burnt ends look a bit "Halfords".

Apparently it polishes out with metal polish.

So glad I did it though The stock setup always seemed lacking... especially when I'm used to my Hilux!

I’ll give it a look again on the TV as I’ll confess I was watching on a phone. If it was a GoPro then that certainly won’t have helped on the audio quality in any case as they’re known for being weak on that front.

Great news on the 1000 mile mark, I found the car definitely endears itself a lot more when you have full use of the revs at your disposal.

I did this on an Invidea exhaust on my 350Z. It looked great with the burnt, rolled tips until it got dirty.

I masked off the paintwork and used brasso and a polishing head from a dremel while the exhaust was still on the car. It was quite difficult to get it to a consistant finish with the small wheel.

I wouldn't recommend that method! taking the exhaust off and using a bigger polishing wheel would be a lot less tedious.

Just some cheap ones, don't know the brand. But they get the job done, running -2 degrees in the rear (and -3 in the front)

I have the same conundrum between the Spec L or L 2 as well. Leaning towards the L2 at the moment but not sure enough to actually place an order!

L2, (new product ending 004) drones at about 3000rpm.

Sit at 70mph on the motorway in 6th and it'll drone/boom. I find it rather irritating, can just about tolerate it.

Gets better in summer, worse in winter.

That youtube video with ( I think its TorqueOfTheDevil's car) Spec L1 in the comments you can see me moaning about drone. Guy there rekons theres no drone at 70 with the L1.

My L2 004 isnt loud enough up top and its too boomy low down just driving around at ~3000rpm. Unsure if I would buy it again and dont know if its the GPF causing these problems.

I've not driven it on the motorway yet so can't confirm.

It is loudest at about 3k, I guess that is drone, but to me it sounds good pottering about town and spirited country drvies. In general its not a loud system, but loud is reletive and in my other two cars the Hilux you pretty much have to shout to be heard, and the Westfield actually made me buy ear defenders (mainly wind admitedly).

I wish I could have had a proper listen to an Apexi before taking the plunge, but I never managed to.

If the Spec L1 and L2 needs a deciding factor, Fensport had an L2 in stock a few weeks ago...

The product code ending 004 is not the Spec L2 - it's the Spec L1. I remember going through all this before when Fensport had the wrong product code listed...

Just following up on this, as I'm a bit concerned now.

32016-BT004 and 32016-BT001 are the SKUs for the Spec L 1 -

I ordered from the link above, where the item was definitely listed as the Spec L II for the GR86, but my PDF invoice has the SKU as 32016-AT123 for the GT86. Might have to follow up with them and make sure :/

If you have 32016-BT004, then you have the Spec L1 (easily recognised by those larger tips).
I have 32016-AF101 which is the Spec L2 and I definitely do not get any drone at 3K RPM, or anywhere else.

Burned tips aside I preferred the look of the L1 so I was swaying in that direction anyway. Hopefully as he says there will be some more footage at some point post run in and some more feedback on how it is to live with day to day.

I’m desperate to add an exhaust but reports of drone has put me off (plus an in-progress bathroom refurb), so this is reassuring.

That said, the Legamax is nearly twice the price of a Cobra or Milltek resonated system. Hmm.

AWE touring... no drone. Sure it's a bit expensive for a Japanese car (but about 1/3 of a desent 718 4.0 exhaust) but nothing compared to the the drop in value of the car for each year, and worth it for the sound it makes that makes you enjoy the car more.

For anyone considering the AWE. there's a 3 month lead-time on them at the moment. mine was a little more but it was over Christmas.
