Hi everyone. Been browsing the forum here for almost a year now. I had initially been looking at getting a GT86 TRD however the more I thought about it the more I kept getting drawn to the GR. I test drove a red one at Macklin Toyota in Glasgow and although they offered me a very, very fair price I ultimately knew it was the Electric Blue I really wanted. Came very close to buying a white one that was being sold by RRG in Stockport however held off in the hope a blue one would pop up somewhere.

And it did! Tucked away in Lochgilphead, I think it was the only Electric Blue GR86 on AutoTrader for quite a while. Although I'm from Glasgow I'm working in ATC down in England so had limited time to get back up North. The opportunity came and I went to see the car. The seller was great and very knowledgeable and had clearly looked after it. Great guy, and even gave me a 45 minute drive along the A83 showing what it was capable of. I came back up north again a few weeks later and bought it. Wishing the seller many happy miles with his new Cayman!

The best thing about it being all the way up in Lochgilphead was getting to drive it back on twisty roads back to Glasgow. Stopped off for some food in Inveraray and later on for some pics at the Rest and be Thankful.

The previous owner had added a Cusco front strut bar with master cylinder brace, braided brake hoses and had the car undersealed. A lovely Billetworkz shifter too, winter mats and a full spare wheel with Pilot Sport 4 tyre. The only "mod" I've done so far is have a Viofo A229 Pro Front + Rear dash cam fitted (expertly done so by Jay at iFitAuto in Paisley). Strongly considering the rear ducktail spoiler and maybe the OEM mud guards too.

The drive from Glasgow to Southampton was surprisingly comfy and was even more impressed at the mileage I was getting on the motorway. Excited to see where this car takes me. Appreciate all the posts everyone has made on here so far, lots of useful advice and tips that I'll certainly be taking advantage of. If anyone knows of great road trips down in Hampshire or fancies a meet up let me know. Equally if I manage to get transferred back to Scotland eventually I'd be keen on some trips up into the Highlands all the same. Cheers all!

@Renzokuken86 - Nice to finally get to 'meet' you!
Jay at iFit (Paisley) fitted the Blackvue systems in both my KonaN and the GR86, a bit of a drive from Dunfermline but worth the effort, he does good work. Regarding you mod considerations, the RokBlokz make a discreet and easily fitted alternative to the OEM mudguards. I also had success with an eBay Ducktail spoiler which was a fraction of the cost of the OEM unit (3M fit only, no drilling or bolting). Also, once you start to collect leaves and twigs at the base of your rear screen you may wish to consider the Aero Stabilizing Cover - it'll be the most expensive strip of plastic you'll ever buy 😆

Welcome to the club, great choice! In terms of driving roads in Hampshire, there are lots of good ones and I am sure someone more knowledgeable than I will be along soon. I do enjoy the A30 around Stockbridge and the A272 from the A30 to Petersfield and the B 2146/2141 to Chichester. My preferred route up to Castle Combe.

Was in to book in the first major service today and enquired about the ducktail spoiler and mudguards - they can definitely get them however labour will probably work out the same cost as the parts themselves. So maybe around a grand in total for parts and fitting. Still tempted, I'd love to give it a go installing myself but would be forever afraid of misaligning the 3M tape and quite apprehensive about drilling any holes!

On a side note, anyone have any recommendations on car detailers in the Glasgow or Southampton/Portsmouth area? Interested in perhaps getting it ceramic coated at some point as well as just a good ol regular wash seeing as the garden hose is a bit naff!

A grand for mudguards and a spoiler is very steep. I can understand being apprehensive about drilling holes for the spoiler....but if you're not too bothered about keeping it OEM I can vouch for Rokblokz mudguards as an alternative.

They are sold from the US but probably no more expensive than OEM, and require no drilling. Also, I personally think they are better than the OEM guards...they are less obvious and don't encroach on the bodywork like the OEM ones doo.

Congratulations beautiful car. Re a Detailer, Fresh Layers in Chichester get great reviews, just a short drive down the A27.

I bought these a few weeks ago and fitted myself, pretty good.

Took the car down to Maidens in Ayrshire a few weeks ago while I was back up home in Scotland. The coastal road is brill, had an absolute blast driving around. Bit of a dreich day as usual but not rainy or overly cold.

Walked along the beach and up to Culzean Castle - the cafe is still as great as I remember it. Would definitely recommend the raspberry and custard cake!

The car might look a little different next time I post, I may have had the ducktail added during its service today... Considering getting the OEM mudguards too at some point as I plan a NC500 run whenever I can get some decent time off work. Roll on payday!

Welcome from a fellow Scottish resident. Cracking colour that, good choice (y) (Sonic pls resist ;)).

I went for the OEM mudflaps (DIY fitment) and noticed the difference and it passed the OH seal of approval…. Win Win.

Hamilton Toyota main dealer can be recommend, few of the guys have now used them and so far.

I fitted the OEM mudflaps when we collected the car. Living in a fairly rural area, I think they're essential. Another vote for Toyota in Hamilton from me.

Whenever I manage to move back home I'll be taking it to Hamilton for sure. Apparently there's a GR Centre dealer opening in Ayr too? My GR86 will be well traveled, last owner had the minor service done at Helensburgh, I've had the major done down in Hampshire. Maybe I should go to RRG Macclesfield next as its about halfway? 😂

Yeah that’s a hard pass. I can see why you made the trip to Hamilton.

Hamilton has their master tech engineer GR certified and is a total petrolhead who built his own rally car when not doing the day job (on number 2) and enjoys working on the GR cars. Spent a good bit of time talking to him in the workshop whilst he working on mine, now that is the kind of guy you want on your car.

Easy to do first thing on the way to work as well. I sat working for a few hours whilst the car was serviced in Hamilton. There was a mix up with the booking date being changed but they fitted it in and the world was all good. Oil filter et all.

I've also just fitted these (splashguards). Easy to fit, and they look quite discreet. Fedex direct from the US, 6 days.

Thought it was time to pop up some new pics especially since I've had the ducktail on for months now. Today's trip was up through Loch Lomond (via Helensburgh for an oil change). The weather was dreich but many happy miles were covered! I don't anticipate making any changes to the car in the short to medium term future however I do quite like the look and sound of the HKS Hi-Power SPEC-L II... Maybe in a few years!
