Hello fellow GR86 owners, time has passed by so quickly and my finance agreement ends early next year. I'm debating what the options are and just wondering what others are doing/going to do?

I am planning on taking out a loan and paying the final payment. Unsure if there are better options, but this is the one I’m going for at the moment.

I would assume that your final payment will be significantly lower than the current value of the car, So you should really try to pay that off and either keep the car, or sell it via carwow, motorway, or any other of the dealer bidding services that are available now. The amount of the final payment should be specified in your finance agreement.

Given the way the GR86 holds it's value, you'll most likely be walking away with a tidy sum if you choose to get rid of it.

I'm currently 'at risk of redundancy', so as I've been with my current company for nearly 20 years, I'm thinking of using some of the redundancy payment (if I'm one of the chosen) to pay off the car . . . I'm certainly not going to hand it back o_O

Paying it off to keep it. May do it early as some have done already. I enquired about the value left and within a few hours had the dealer phoning wanting a chat and had the same conversation just before service. Unless there's an MR2 with 400bhp imminent, then it's staying.

lol... I had the same experience. They tried selling me a GR Yaris. It just doesn't appeal to me.

Me neither, especially after a sit in the new one. It could work but I wouldn't give up the 86 for it and would be a very expensive daily to replace the Swift. Plan short term is to keep both, run Swift until it rusts out, then replace it. The 86 will be used more next year.

I just did the thing online to say I'm keeping my Yaris, not sure why you need to when the default is keeping it and toyota taking the final payment but there we are. 10mins later I get an email offering a normal Yaris 🙄

When I went in to the Honda dealership to say I was going to pay the final payment on my Type R, the re was a FL5 (new model) right in front of me and the dude just totally dismissed me saying I need to contact Honda finance. I would have expected a bit more. I wasn't even offered a test drive or a look around it.

Conversely, I paid cash for the 86, favouring a bank loan over PCP as a top-up, and I've never been in touch with the dealership since. I get sent marketing waffle from Toyota all the time regarding white-goods spec Toyotas which I would never consider owning.

Wow! That's surprising. You'd think they would at least try and tempt you with a new car.

Due to a previously expressed interest, I had a call from a local dealership offering me a test drive in a "GR Corolla". I replied to the enquiring lady that I didn't believe this model was available to buy in the UK, and that a 'Corolla GR Sport' was completely different to a GR Corolla. I think I could actually hear her shuffle away with head bowed in shame as we said goodbye ...

Health and safety lady at work is ademant that her hybrid yaris is "the GR one" because it has GR badges on it. I think the main reason car companies have halo models is so they can slap the same badges on the normy versions.

Yeah, these people need to be enlightened that 'GR Sport' is actually just a trim level, not an actual GR. Maybe leave a copy of the GR Pyramid laying around on a desk somewhere ...
