Mr PVGR has done a great review and will add just a few thoughts on my ownership.
I was driving a 2015 plate MX5 NC daily for 80k miles and a 2007 plate same car for 60 k and have always loved the rear wheel drive platform with little or no toys since my first car which was a Hillman Avenger 1500 at the age of 14 on my mates dads farm on the tracks and fields once they were cut and reasonably flat...No H&S in those days just have fun and enjoy life!! I am exceedingly grateful for those opportunities I had at a young age. I wont mention MK1 Escorts etc that may or may not have been driven round country roads!! but you get my attraction and addiction to a rear wheel drive platform!!
Ive always admired the design of the GT86 but they were always silly money compared to an MX5 NC....I picked up my 2015 NC for 14k at 7k miles at 2 years old, I looked at similar GT's and 10k more.
I got a sniff of the GR86 from my best mate who does good things nationally for Hyundai and as my NC was piling on the miles and I had lost all faith with Mazda after charging me numeorus times to fix a failed roof and a 45 quid quote on a service for an 8 quid wiper blade!!
I was again then fortunate enough to have changed jobs to have the available cash to buy one of the first allocation and secure one....it's well documented what a shit show that was!!
So as for my review of the GR86
What the feck else was available for less than 31k with paint of my choice!!
To me its sublime and I hope Im passing on my thoughts that Im not a driving god and Im just amazed at what we have been given to enjoy from Toyota with a 100k warranty!!
Mods, ive done a couple as its a keeper to outlast it 100k mile warranty...Oz Racing Ultraleggera in Gold for summer use, Michelin CC2 on stock rims for winter use, HKS Legamax Premium for mild theatre!!
Oh!! and the rear window thingy aero cover which to be fair was the best purchase!!
As for how it drives...it's an amazing car!! We have done a few far more exotic examples!!
Love it to bits and feel very very fortunate to have one is my conclusion!!
