Looks spot on but as you say, a more conservative 43 offset would likely have fewer issues with rubbing a still look fantastic.

The recent TireRack test of tyres of different widths on different wheels revealed that slightly stretched 225s are the fastest and best feeling combo on a BRZ but I'm sure it will depend on the tyre somewhat, they were using a dedicated track tyre in their test.

A few minor visual tweaks to add to the 86 over the weekend. Some new 3D printed and colour matched Toyota badges, courtesy of my friends over at 3DCabin, and some taillight overlays courtesy of Kevin at Driven Media.

These particular Toyota emblems, with colour matching, are currently not available via 3DCabin, however if you want some, please let me and I can get in touch with Ben on your behalf. There are however, some all black emblems currently available for purchase, and I have a load of 10% off codes for those of you who want to place an order. Send me a PM if you'd like some.

Aside from the minor additions, I spent this past weekend driving some of my favourite Welsh roads and went for a spin up over the Brecon Beacons with some friends in their GT86s. It's safe to say that the capbilities of this new generation 86 are pretty immense. The performance difference between this car and the old 86 is pretty astonishing.

Some arty, edited photos to commemorate the weekend, celebrate the glorious weather and show the car in its current state:

Next up for the car is likely to be a new front splitter (another first for the UK, so watch this space) followed by some interior tweaks (rear seat delete with new alcantara false floor, new front bucket seats and an alcantara wheel and interior fixtures). Some of these things may take some time to arrive, so the progress may slow up slightly over the coming weeks/months.

Love the colour matched badges, but all I can find on their site is black, howd you manage to pull that off?
I also have the overlays from kevin , including the reverse light(y)

The guy that owns the site is a good friend of mine. He made my colour matched ones as the first trial.

I believe he is looking to do the other colours too. If you want, I can put the request across to him to get some blue ones in the shop ready for you?

Well, after an embarrasingly long time, I am probably overdue an update to this thread...there have been a few changes after all.

From memory, my last posts were around the 3-4k mileage mark. We're now up to approximately 13,000 very happy miles. First service completed at 10k courtesy of my friends at RRG Macclesfield, including a nice evening of curry and beers the night before.

As far as further modifications go, I'm going to have to try and remember everything, but I'll do my best.

For full disclosure, so you can take my opinions with a pinch of salt, I will mention parts I've had discounted/free:
  • JC Clubsport rear seat delete (provided free of charge)
  • Focal IS165TOY plug and play speaker upgrade
  • Beatsonic PA2T1K Encore plug and play Amplifier
  • Aeroflow Dynamics V1 front lip (lasted 2 weeks...)
  • TRD side vent covers
  • Driven Media rear 3rd brake light and reverse light overlays (smoked black)
  • Billetworkz Hybrid shift knob (heavily discounted)
  • EightyZips alcatnara gear and handbrake gators (discounted)
  • Rexpeed Alcantara steering wheel
  • Vibe Belts golden yellow matched seatbelts
  • Custom alcantara wrapped interior (almost finished - completed myself)
  • MST Performance Intake (free of charge, weather prevented fitting so far)
  • Noble hood struts
Nothing major has been achieved yet, mainly because I went through a spell of debating swapping the 86 for either an Aston Martin V8 Vantage or Alpine A110S, but came to my senses just after Christmas.

Some pictures to show some of these upgrades:

Only minor upgrades, but now the car is here to stay, the list of upcoming changes is much more defined. Over the next few months, plans are:

  • Fit MST intake
  • Front BBK
  • Replace front seats with fixed buckets
  • Deadweight Industries lightweight battery
  • Pedders top mounts (for additional front camber)
  • TRD/Max Orido front lip
  • NA remap (when publicly available)
  • Finish alcantara retrim on interior
If anyone is interested in any changes in particular, please let me know and I'll be happy to share my thoughts on those specifically.

Fingers crossed, by Japfest I can tick off a few more of the items on the list :)

Thanks all!

Would be interested to hear your unbiased feedback on the MST intake as you haven't paid for it. All too easy to justify an expensive mod if you've spent a lot on it sometimes. Would especially like to know if it triggers a CEL as it seems to have done for some US owners.

I’ve been in conversation with them for some time now, originally we were meant to have a demo intake sent out before Japfest last year, but the reports on CELs put me off even receiving a free one.

Over the past year, some additional testing has been carried out in the US, and some information on why the CELs were happening has come out, which has given me some confidence.

Earlier versions (we’ll assume V1) had an enlarged intake tube. Stock is 73mm, MSTs V1 was 80mm. It turned out that, without a tune, this increase was too large and was causing the AFR to run extremely lean, so much so it would cause lumpy idle and eventually a CEL and limp mode.

MST have sent out a V2 intake tube and silicone joiner to the original posters in the US, and all have refitted without issues. The new intake tube is much closer to stock size pipework so doesn’t cause an issue on stock tune.

Obviously I still need to test it myself, but I have a little more confidence than previously, but I’ll put my thoughts up after a few hundred miles of driving or so.

Nice mods, and the rear seat delete is interesting. Shame about the front lip, it seems any semblance to a slope on a driveway reduces clearance substantially.

Oh, and the black badge on the front.
I actually ended up having to fit some small ramps to the bottom of my drive to prevent scraping, so it was an inconvenience. The final straw was an already squashed dead animal in the road. I thought it was squished enough that I could straddle over top of it. Heard a loud bang, obviously was wrong.

The result was around 35% of the splitter remained on the A417, 65% remained on the car. Had to pull in to Tesco in Cirencester to buy a small tool kit so I could remove the bolts…in their car park đŸ¤£ Had some interesting looks.

I think the lesson is, don’t buy cheap plastic splitters haha.

Okay, this is by far the best interior I have seen. Good lord those seatbelts are beautiful

I've been so tempted in getting matching blue belts. Any issues with the belts not feeding properly?

Thank you, I appreciate the kind words. Still a little bit to go yet, and a few details I'm not 100% happy with, but for a mostly DIY job I'm pretty happy.

Absolutely no issues with the belts. I used Vibe Belts in the west midlands, he swapped the old black belts for these in about 2 hours, just booked in, went to the unit and stood chatting while he did the work. Exceptional quality, and not a single complaint.

Great setup @S18RSG.
I am interested in Beatsonic PA2T1K Encore plug and play Amplifier.
Are you happy with the performance and most importantly where did you place it? Being AB Type amplifer they do tend to run a bit warm.

Thanks.

It's hard to say how much difference it made alone, as I did the speakers, amp and a load of sound deadening all at the same time. The overall difference is massive.

The things I would associate as being the differences made by an amp, the soundstage is brilliant, there's no way to determine where the sound is coming from, it's a very "together" sound. Bass in much punchier, vocals and high frequency sounds (hi hats etc.) are very prominent. It does need some EQ tweaking however, or the mids come become a little harsh if not.

I installed it behind the dash trim on the passenger side, just under the passenger airbag. There's plenty of room in there for it.

By way of a small update:

Placed the order earlier this week for a bespoke set of fixed back bucket seats.

Have spent many months going around testing many different seats, speaking to manufacturers to see who's willing to partner up, and ultimately trying to find the best possible solution for fitting. In conclusion, the list of parts has ended up as:
  • 2x Bespoke Limited Edition Corbeau Pro Sport bucket seats (new version of the popular Clubsport)
    • Black leather with black alcantara centre cushions, yellow stitching and yellow Corbeau logo
  • M2 Motorsport direct fit rails with sliders
  • Seat Sim solution from Just Gerald Solutions (to enable passenger airbag functionality without OEM occupancy sensors)
  • Airbag canceller module from Brad's Hacks
  • Generic occupancy sensor (for passenger seat, to plug into Seat Sim)
There's a chance this list will grow once everything is received. I may get some seatbelt extenders to be able to thread the seatbelt buckle through the seat, but will see how everything goes together.

With any luck, everything should be here and fitted before Japfest, so hope to be able to share progress then :)

Very grateful for the service from Corbeau, but despite the 1-2 week expected delay for production, the team were apparently "very excited" to make them and got them straight into production. I have to say, I'm VERY excited.

A sneak peak ahead of receiving them Wednesday.

Very nice. I'm guessing some yellow harnesses are next.
